20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am For Sale (1989) edit C107041 | | | In 1989 Pontiac marketed a new Pontiac Firebird pace car replica. This special 20th Anniversary Firebird Turbo Trans Am (TTA) based on the GTA was only available in white with tan interior and came equipped with a Buick 3.8L V6 with a turbocharger developed from the Grand National. These 1989 Firebird replicas were as close to the actual pace cars as any replica offered up to this time. The only changes made to the cars that actually were on the track during the race were the addition of strobe lights and safety equipment. 1,555 were produced, 5 being test cars. Out of 1,550 cars produced by PAS, the actual pace cars were randomly selected and sent to Indy for testing and modification. When they were released to the public they were underrated in power as not to break the unspoken rule that GM had, that no model from their range could have greater power than the flagship Corvette. Well this one did, in fact it was the fastest production car the US market produced in 1989 and is the fastest production Pontiac ever to wear the Trans Am badge.
This car is no 448 of the 1550 built and has covered 60000 miles. It was imported into the UK in 1990 and was wax treated very shortly after. Since my ownership it has had a new interior to freshen it up. This year it has also had, new exhaust and battery. It can be driven anywhere and everything works.
