MODEL DETAILS

The DB6 was the final evolution from the line started by the DB4; announced at the London Motor Show in October 1965. Many changes were made from the previous model the DB5 including an extended wheelbase by 3.75 inches allowing an inch higher roofline offering better head and leg room for rear seat passengers.

Other prominent features were the split front and rear bumpers and the swept-up tail. This particular swept-up tail gave the DB6 more stability speeding above 200 km/h and a higher top speed than the DB5, even though the DB6 was slightly heavier.

The construction of the car no longer followed the 'Superleggera' principles and the badges on the bonnet were deleted in 1967. The engine was carried over from the DB5 with 3 SU carburettors fitted as standard.

When production on the DB6 was superseded by the Mark 2 version in July 1969, around 903 examples had been built, making the DB6 Mark 1 the most successful of the DB4/5/6 line.

In March 1966, Paul McCartney took delivery of his DB6. The DB6 is reputed because Paul used a special built in reel to reel tape to record his initial lyrics and melody of 'Hey Jude'.

CAR DETAILS

This DB6 Mark 1 Saloon with chassis number DB6/2759/R was first registered on 19th August 1966. This Aston was delivered to its first owner, H. J. Harper of Kent by the original dealer, H. R. Owen Ltd.

In 1971, the car was sold to Lieutenant Colonel Austin of Hatfield Peverel in Essex and future owners of this wonderful car will be indebted to Lt. Col. Austin for his meticulous record keeping during his ownership. There are diaries noting events, fuel consumption and servicing as well as hand-written notes of every event in the car’s service/performance and there is every MOT certificate issued to the car between 1971 and 1995 – only those coinciding with periods of storage are missing. These records are enough to mark this DB6 as a special car. This DB6 passed to its last owner in the Channel Islands. Starting with an engine rebuild by Works Service at Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd, in 2004, this DB6 has been the subject of extensive restoration that was completed by specialist restorers Le Riche in 2008.

This excellent DB6 with its history, outstanding condition and attractive colour combination makes it a very desirable car in the market.

It offers a stunning classic design with “modern” driving capabilities. The DB6 is the perfect everyday classic amongst its DB peers.

RESTORATION WORKS

The restoration works started with a complete engine rebuild (new cylinder block, new liners, new pistons and rings, new studs, crankshaft balanced, new bearings, new gaskets and seals, new oil pump, new silicone water hoses and many more) by Aston Martin Works Service in 2004.
Then Le Riche took over to continue the restoration (removing paint, cutting out all 4 wings, cutting out sills, striping the body in and outside, sandblasting, renewing wings, renewing sills, renewing jack points, spraying primer and colour, waxing oil - stone guard under seal, spraying body colour, polishing, waxing, new rubber set, Becker Stereo radio, new speakers, new mirrors, new Avon 205HR15 80 tires, new chrome wire wheels, new brake hoses, new brake discs, reconditioning master cylinder, complete service and many more) completed in March 2008.
The large history file contains bills from 2004 to 2008 in excess of GBP 81’000.

To keep the soul of this DB6, it was decided to keep and reinstate the original leather trim and carpets.
