APAL Coupé For Sale (1969) edit C112687 | | | Rare Belgian sports coupé manufactured by APAL in 1962. On demand the rear end got the looks of a Ferrari 250 GTO.
To improve the ride and handling the chassis was changed in 1981 to the floor pan of an automatic Beetle which has the double jointed (IRS) rear axle. This explains the registration year 1969. In 1993 a permission was granted by APAL and the Belgian Ministry of Transport to change the engine to a VW/Porsche type 4.
The chassis has a completely renewed braking system. In front type 3 disc brakes and in rear 22.2 mm diameter brake calipers. New bearings rear and front, new steering gear, strengthened front axle, alloy rims with 195/60/14 tires. The interior contains a Momo steering wheel, Porsche 356 speedometer, VDO gauges, Recaro sportseats and a canvas sunroof. The engine is a VW/Porsche, type 4, 1970 cc, crankshaft with counterweights, 296 degrees camshaft, Porsche 914 cylinderheads with SS intake valves and natrium filled exhaust valves, 2 double Dellorto DRLA 40 carburettors, 911 alternator cooling fan, infrared ignition, HD oilpump with thermostatically controlled AKG 680 mm oil cooler in front, 42 mm diameter sports exhaust manifold. Rebuilds were done with new original parts.
