Original London Transport Routemaster For Sale (1965) edit C112735 | | | Original 1965 AEC Routemaster London Bus
1979 Shillibeer livery
Reluctantly for sale due to another project that must be started is my 1965 London Transport AEC Routemaster. It was new to London Transport and spent all of it's passenger carrying life in London and was fortunate enough to be spared the refurbishment programme that befell the slightly longer RML class.
I have owned this vehicle for nearly 9 years having rescued her from almost certain doom having spent a period out of use. I had a great deal of work carried out on the fuel system before sending her to Blackpool where Busworks carried out a full rebuild on her which lasted for 6 months before returning to me resplendent as you see her here. This included complete re-panelling, full overhauls on both axles and brakes, replacement fuel injection system with new injectors. Complete reupholstery in original pattern moquette and rexine panelling replaced with new material on interior panels.
This bus was fortunate to be chosen as one of 12 Routemasters to be finished in the beautiful replication livery of George Shillibeer's first horse bus in 1829 and she has been beautifully restored into this livery complete with authentic style graphics in gold. The paintwork on the vehicle is of the highest quality hand brushed coachwork carried out by traditional craftsmen whist at Busworks.
As a consequence of escaping LT refurb she has retained most of the original design features which include:
Individual small interior light bulbs
Original starter sytem
AEC 590V 9600cc engine (sounds just beautiful!)
Tartan style interior upholstery
Original heating system
Illuminated advert panel in downstairs saloon
Original rear light
Front 'ear' indicators
The only improvements to modernity are 10x 22.5 inch wheels with tubeless tyres, the fitment of an isolator and 'bomb' key starter as well as a switched electric fuel pump.
She starts, runs and stops beautifully and the AEC engine just purrs!
She has a full Class 5 MOT until 20.10.10 and has free Historic Vehicle Road Tax until 30.09.10.
Make no mistake, this is one of the finest and rarest examples of London's iconic Routemaster's that you will ever have the chance to buy, so please respect that the reserve reflects this and no silly offers please!
The vehicle is available for viewing in the North East on appointment only as she is in secure storage.
