380 SL Auto Black Leather Interior For Sale (1984) edit C113752 | | | This car is in great condition for its age and comes with history, some bills and old mots. The car has been restored to a good standard including new wings and rear wheel arches. The bodywork is excellent with very few marks in fact it looks almost superb. A previous owner re-sprayed the car at considerable expense and the paintwork is great and remains very shinny. The chrome work is also in good condition. The underside of the car is solid and any areas of corrosion have been repaired and waxoled. The floor pans, sills, inner wings are all sound and the boot area is very clean. The wheels look like brand new and the tyres are fit for a good few more thousand miles. The car has covered 177770 miles, which works out at an average of just over 7,000 miles per year and seems to have been well looked after.
The car comes with a hard top, which is in excellent condition both inside and out with only a couple of little dents on the chrome. The soft-top has been patched but is too good to replace as it keeps out the rain, is taught and the plastic windows are perfect and clear. You’ll drive the car with the roof down most times so it’s not a problem. There is also an immobiliser fitted and a locking point on the centre console for extra security. The original Blaupunkt stereo radio cassette is fitted and the electric aerial works. There are electric windows and an electric passengers mirror.
Mechanically the car has a beautiful smooth automatic gearbox and drives really well, pulling away well for a car of its age and size with no smoke. The engine is a little tappety but I believe this is a common fault. The car has had a recent top end rebuild with replacement cams. The compression on the engine is top notch, oil pressure is excellent and fuel consumption is in the region of 25+mpg average (approx), which is very good for a V8 autimatic. The engine has been serviced recently with new filters, plugs, oil and a set of ignition leads. There will also be new wheel bearings and brake discs fitted.
The black leather interior is in good condition and has leather rear seats, something that was an expensive option when new. The carpets are in good condition and the seats have a nice patina that lends character to the car. There is MOT until April 2010 and road tax until the end of November 2009. The 380 SL is a rare model and can only appreciate in value. The car is condition 2 and with a little work could be condition one, remember at this price it’s not pristine but is, in my opinion, in very good condition and with a little fettling could be even better. This is a car that just needs to be enjoyed and should provide trouble free motoring for many more years.
