Original Checkercab 8 door Aerobus For Sale (1977) edit C114821 | | | Reputedly the only one in the uk. Genuine 1977 checker aerobus 8 door "booted" limousine. Reputed to be the only "booted" version of the aerobus in the uk. This is a genuine "aerobus" having the 8 studded axles and all the heavy duty running gear to take up to 14 passengers (in america!!). n.b. It is not a "cut and shut".this is the story of martins 1977 8 door checker cab. They supposedly made only 77 booted versions of the aerobus. 33 in 1976 and 44++ in 1977. this example was apparently imported in the mid '90s by a company called "tucker griffiths" (somewhere up north!!!). it was used as a promotional car by "budweiser-king of beers" for their advertisement campaign. The car was purchased by martin in 2003 in a sorry state of repairs. After a year long "wheels up" restoration (photos available) costing in excess of £35000.00 martin put the car to work, succesfully charging £1000 for ladies day ascot and £200 for school proms. The car has had a brand new engine fitted which arrived in a crate from the states. It was also gas converted with the latest system. There is a certificate available. When using gas the car does the equivalent of 22mpg on petrol. The engine and gas conversion cost £3500. the car has been featured in many publications including classic american, classic and sportscar, the independant newspaper (written by the well respected mr martin buckley), and practical classics winning the title of "classic people carriers" - written by andrew roberts. The condition of the checker is regarded as 8 out of 10. it is not "concours" but a 31 year old workhorse which has provided a healthy living!!! there is a written valuation of £40,000.00 by the checker car club gb and is insured for that sum by direct chauffeurline. The main difference between this car and the lincoln towncars is that they loose thousands of pounds in depreciation and by year of manufacture. I.e. Not the current model asked for by customers. However the checker is timeless. And if looked after could be a sound investment. Unlike all of the lincolns, chryslers, hummers, excursions etc etc, the checker was built strong and sound specifically for taxi work in the us.the vehicle is only for sale now due to other business commitments. There is a mirrored ceiling,with colour changing fibre optics and rope effects, twin lazer show, a bubble machine, blue neons under the seats all this plus a great dvd/cd etc sound system with amp/sub in the boot and two large drop down dvd screens inside. It has just had 2 new tyres fitted, a new mot and 6 months tax. It also benefits from a stainless steel exhaust!!! any questions, please do not email but phone Martin. thanks for looking.
