Bedford TK motorhome - ex bbc broadcast truck For Sale (1982) edit C117593 | | | Where to begin....she is a 1982 Bedford TK powered by a 5.4 litre straight 6 diesel. She runs absolutely perfect and we have done many miles in her including four months and 3 thousand miles around France and Italy. She has been faultless in our ownership and I expect her to continue being reliable. There really isn't much to go wrong with these old things so long as you keep feeding diesel in. btw- over those three thousand miles she returned 15 mpg. We kept the receipts out of curiosity to work it out.
She is 6.5 tonne and we drive her on a car licence. She is registered as a motorhome and insurance is cheap. She'll have 12 months MOT and 6 months tax.
Inside is a large couch long enough to sleep me easily at 6'2" and very comfy for sitting on in front of the glass fronted wood stove. Above the cab is a full width double bed with side and front large opening windows. There is also a skylight that you can climb through on to the roof from the bedroom. The roof has been made to be stood on by BBC film crews.
Above the couch is another large opening skylight. The kitchen area has a full size oven with an eye-level grill and four rings which runs on bottled gas. There is also a sink and drainer (with hot tap) and fridge.
The bottled gas is a refillable cylinder - you can refill at any service station that sells lpg. This works out a lot cheaper than calor gas bottles and you can always just top up rather than waiting for the bottle to run out.
There is a fantastic shower - it is better than a lot of house showers. There is also a cassette type toilet with flush.
180 litre water tank which is enough for about 25 -30 minutes of hot showers. There are no grey waste tanks - the shower water feeds the grass. There is a separate drinking water tank with electric pump.
Excellent stereo system with Mordant Short speakers in the living area and bedroom. More than loud enough with excellent bass.
Loads of storage space inside and outside including a bike box on the back which holds up to 4 bikes. Lockable belly boxes all round courtesy of the BBC and taxpayers money. It really is a beautifully built truck. Its all made from tigwelded aluminium frame clad in aluminium sheet. No leaks.
A generator is included which fits perfectly into a slide-out frame in one of the belly boxes. This is a 650 kva Honda which is very quiet and will happily run tellys, laptops, etc. whilst charging the leisure battery. There is a 300 watt inverter as well for running things 240 volt without having generator running.
She is lovely to drive as long as you accept that your trip will take twice as long. There is no power steering but this is only noticable at very low speeds whilst parking, etc. 5 speed gearbox and air over hydraulic power brakes.
