Lotus Cortina mk2 series 1 for restoration.
Garage stored and not turned a wheel for last 30 years.Still has last Tax disc in screen 31/5/79.Originally Dragoon red,car was painted(possibly by a hoover!)black in late 70`s (John Player specials,were very in vogue!)At same time,car had new front wings,front valance,slam panel,outer sills.These are all rust free,but would need some fettling work,where they have been taken off in preparation for re`restoration,ie..wings would need work along edges,where they were welded on.Bonnet is very rusty underneath at front around the strengthening section,and would probably need work,or replacing,although top of bonnet is sound.Please note...Wings and valance and slam panel,have been self tapped into position for ease of transportation purposes.Both Doors are in good rust free condition.Drivers door will need window frame re welding one end to main frame(a common problem,but easily fixed).n/s rear arch will need replacing,o/s rear arch original,and in good condition.Boot lid will require work on inner lip,but not too bad,rest of boot lid ok.Top plates ok,but engine bay will need some minor welding repairs.Both A posts will need repairs at top,although Drivers door opens ok,and does`nt drop,so o/s Apost still strong,as The doors are very long and heavy.N/s door has top hinge missing,so cant tell if post is as strong as drivers side,but it looks in very similar condition.Front n/s and o/s floor will need repairs,rear floor excellent.inner sills ok.N/s front chassis rail needs repair.O/s front chassis rail looks ok.N/s rear chassis rail looks ok.O/s rear Chassis rail will need repair work just behind shock absorber location,spring hanger sections look ok.Interior is all original and in very good condition,save bottom of drivers seat,which is split in several places.All guages,switches,centre console etc are present.Carpet is excellent,Headlining has been removed.All original Glass is present.Stainless trim is all nice.Both bumpers straight,although rear will need re chroming.Nice set of period Alloys (need re finishing),and car still sits on a good set of Tyres!
Engine has been stripped and covered in grease for storage.I would envisage that it will need work,due to 30 years in storage,and absolute false economy not to rebuild.There are a few ancillary`s missing,ie,Air box,dynamo,fuel and oil pump,also chain and mains bearings,But irrelevent if re`building,also an ideal opportunity for electric pump, alternator and belt drive conversion if so desired..Gearbox,bellhousing,clutch,flywheel and propshaft all present.
Description is an honest account as can be when describing a 41 year old car for total rebuild.And chances are,some bits will be better,some worse,same as some other bits will undoubtably be missing,other bits might be there.So i strongly recommend viewing,so you can make your own mind up about car.There is also some extra spare parts that come with car like,Radiator,exhaust manifolds,grille,petrol tank etc.
