MG Metro - Low Mileage SOLD (1985) | | | Not for sale - it has been sold via a Car and Classic Free Ad | I bought this car off of the original owner in 2006 due to its very low mileage, rust free condition (it had been regularly tucked away in the integral garage of the sellers house) and because I wanted to save it from another buyer who seemed more interested in the engine and gearbox.
I have every MOT issued to substantiate the mileage, all documents, two sets of keys, original dealer bill of sale - which matches the dealer stamp on the front and rear number plates. The spare wheel appears never to have been fitted to the car - nor the tools used. The interior is as near perfect as you are likely to find, the original radio cassette works, the aerial isn't bent, the digital clock works etc.
When I bought the car, it came with 4 recently fitted metric tyres which look hardly used. I have since resprayed all 4 allow wheels so they look as good as the rest of the car.
While the car had been taxed and used occasionally before I bought it, I had a comprehensive and professional recommision/service carried out by the garage I use (bills to prove). This covered:
10,000 mile type service, check compressions, fit new brake master cylinder, rear wheel brake cylinders and brake shoes, bleed brake system, pump up suspension and fit new water pump. Cost £250. Mileage 27,617. Date: 26.9.07
Remove cylinder head, strip, decoke, lap in valves, rebuild and refit using new headset and antifreeze. £220. Mileage 27,631.
Since then the car has been tucked up in my garage, with the car's battery receiving a constant trickle charge from a battery conditioner. I also have warmed it up and driven it on my drive regularly to ensure everything remained in tip top condition.
Realising that I had too many other toys and little time, I recently had it re-MOT'd (runs until 20 August 2010) and took it on its longest single (and faultless) journey in my ownership to Beaulieu Autojumble - a round trip of 180 miles. I coaxed the car on the outward journey and, being tired, gave it a heavy right foot on the return journey.
To my mind, these are seriously undervalued little Mini Cooper alternatives which offer fantastic space (I'm 6 foot 8'' tall). They are also becoming extremely rare on the roads - especially in this condition.
This car would suit a dealer, classic car buff or someone who just wants a fun, economical car to run and insure that is easy to maintain and shouldn't devalue if well looked after.
The car is taxed for 6 months (until Feb 2010) and is being sold because of its lack of regular use and my need for the garage space.
