Singer Nine Roadster For Sale (1947) edit C121336 | | | http://www.naddervalleyclassics.co.uk/index.asp?section=5&page=164 | | Singer Roadsters are, it seems, like London buses; you don't see one for ages then two come along at once. Barely weeks after our first ever Roadster left us another pretty example has arrived. It is a 1947 model, so virtually identical to the original pre-war version, complete with 1074 cc engine, three-speed box and mechanical brakes. Always more tourer than sporting machine, it does have the great appeal of four proper seats, making it a perfect family classic.
This is an older restoration, most of the work having been done between 1986 and 1988. It is still in very good order and nicely mellow. There are the inevitable marks and scuffs on the paintwork but only minor and the all important ash frame seems very solid and the interior is smart and comfortable. Earlier history in the form of original log books survived and persuaded the DVLA to reissue its original registration in 1991. Since the restoration, which included an engine rebuild and full respray, the car appears to have been only lightly used, judging by the mileages recorded on the MOT certificates. Most of the brightwork was rechromed in 2001 and a full set of top quality weather gear fitted the same year. New brake shoes and linings were fitted for the last MOT in July.
The car is charming to drive and a lovely period piece. Unlike obvious rivals such as the T series MGs there is plenty of room for taller drivers as well as passengers. It will be a big hit wherever it is shown and a delight for gentle meandering through country lanes.
