1950 Pontiac Chieftan Silver Streak For Sale edit C121506 | | | 1950 Pontiac Chieftan Silver Streak
Certainly amongst the most handsome of the big sedans of its era, the Pontiac Chieftain “Silver Streak” series owed its distinctive shape to GM styling chief Harley Earl. This well proportioned motorcar with 120” wheelbase was available in hardtop coupe and two and four-door sedan styles. The model was available in both six and eight cylinder form and the latter variant was distinguished by a number ‘8’ between the words “Silver Streak” on the front fenders.
This particular vehicle dates from 1950, having had two previous keepers, one from new and the second owner retaining the car from 1970 to 1997 (20 and 27 years respectively). The current owner has stored the car since 1997 (12 years).
Imported new by a family near Arlesford in Hampshire and used on visitors plates (retained and available), it was subsequently registered in 1957 with the Hampshire number ROR 234.
Clearly the car has been little used over the years, as according to records in 1961 the mileage was only 8,175. The owners returned to the USA in 1966 and the car was stored and maintained by a local garage at a local garage (receipts available) until its acquisition by the second owner in April 1970 with 12,300 miles recorded.
Thirty Nine years on, the mileage stands at little over 19,000 miles and subsequently, this car is almost certainly unique.
An inspection demonstrates that the body and structure are very good throughout with totally original paintwork. A similar description could be given to all mechanical components. The vehicle has recently had fitted all new white wall tyres, a new battery and exhaust system. The grey cloth interior (bench seats) is original and in excellent condition. The carpets however, have been replaced.
This car is clearly a “historical vehicle”, and as such benefits from road tax exemption in the UK and very modestly priced collector’s car insurance premiums. The car has been inspected and subsequently a valuation certificate issued at £20,000.00 for insurance purposes.
In view of its low mileage and originality, this fine American motorcar is surely a must for the serious connoisseur.
A number of mechanical and cosmetic spares for this vehicle also available which can be purchased separately.
