This classic 911 T was purchased by me in July 2008 from Bonhams at Silverstone.
I have the Porsche certificate of authenticity, which shows it was made in June 1972 and first imported to USA, it also clearly shows it is not a matching numbers car, with the original engine being replaced sometime whilst in the USA.
It was brought back to Holland in April 1997 and has had a light cosmetic repaint in 2001.
I bought it on “Dutch plates” from Bonhams and registered it in UK in August 2008.
Whilst the initial Auction price was good value, I have subsequently spent over £11K in bringing it back up to a good standard.
The front floorpan (Front bonnet area) was replaced, along with correct lights and other minor pieces. The engine was removed by Bob Watson and extensive work was carried out on the top end, valve guides etc, including upgrading it with Hydraulic chain tensioners.
Southbound carried out a complete refurbishment of the Targa roof and door seals etc and Canford Classics refurbed the “fuchs” wheels with a polished finish.
I subsequently fitted Cobra RS seats and a protipo steering wheel, but I have all the originals as well. Cocomats from the USA finish off the interior look.
Whilst never claiming to be the best early 911 Targa, it certainly has not wanted for anything in my ownership. My urge to get another modern 911 has resulted in this reluctant sale, as I only have one garage.
