this is a very rare chance to own a genuine cortina savage built by jeff uren if you have been looking for one, then i believe that is this the car for you as i do not think that another will come on the open market for some time if ever!
this is a very well known savage in the cortina world and has been seen at many shows and was also on the 1600e stand at the nec october 2006, and was also exhibited at billing cortina day may 2007, simmons yatt june 2009, the national 2009, stoneleigh 2009. the savage is also on the cortina savage register.
the car has been owned for the last ten years by a real cortina enthusiast and a trained mechanic for the past 35 years who has completely overhauled this car from front to back, and has spent thousands of pounds doing so. To use his words “i have spent two fortunes, a kings ransom, at least an arm and possibly a leg, then some more on this car, and that doesn’t include time”.
the car is in excellent condition, with very large history file, also reams of receipts and paperwork relating to the car and money spent. The interior of the car is in excellent condition benefiting from having the wood reveneered and lacquered, new carpets etc. Bodywork is in very good condition there are a couple of bubbles on one of the sills but this is minor i can’t even remember which sill it is, and also some cracks on the passenger side inner wing but these do not detract from the overall appearance of this car.
based on a series two cortina 1600e, this genuine savage was built by jeff uren ltd. (raceproved) during july and august 1969. it was registered on the 14th august 1969 and delivered on the 22nd (friday) of the same month.
the car cost its first owner £1,918.0s0d plus a further £35 for the weslake engine tuning pack (190bhp) added in september 1969. this was a lot of money back in ’69 when you consider that a new range rover or the new jaguar xj6 were roughly £2000.0s.0d.
further options that were ordered at the time were twin tanks or to be more accurate a further “cortina estate” tank (then, also described as a long range tank) behind the rear seat (note the filler cap on the rear “deck”). the standard cortina tank was retained, its filler moved and blanked off, so that now it is now filled from the bottom of the capri one… it’s a handy feature, a 3:54 diff’ ratio and overdrive were also ticked together with lotus cortina instruments and a heated rear window on the options list. The heated screen is like the mini cooper windscreen of the same era, laminated with the elements just noticeable running inbetween the glass layers. To finish the package off, the car was ordered with a vinyl roof together with a folding “weathershields” sun roof.
the car has also been fitted with an oil cooler situated under the front nearside wing, front fog lamps under the front bumper and a twin anti roll bar. Also been added is the nice “period” dunlop alloys. Other items that have been added along the way are a facet electric fuel pump, switched by a separate switch on the dash (a security feature?), also and whilst on the subject of security, hi kee locks have been added to the external locks. A lumenition ignition system has also been added for reliability, coil over front strutts and gaz adjustable rear shocks. Stainless steel exhaust, top tint laminated front screen. Lots of other work has been carried out on this car but i would be typing all night if i was to list it all, the condition of the car backed up by the history speaks for itself.
