AUSTIN 18/6 VERY RARE CARLTON SALOON 1933. SOLD | | |
| | | http://www.blackandwhitecarsbmth.com | Dating from 1933, this is a particularly rare and well-appointed version of the 18/6 known as the Carlton Saloon. Only produced between December 1933 and June 1934, it was a full five seater with a beautifully trimmed cabin with leather upholstery, rear passenger footrests, wooden door cappings and window surrounds and a collapsible luggage rack to the rear. Power came from the usual 2.5-litre side-valve inline six rated at 18hp.
Not much is known about the early history of the car but it was first registered in Lancashire and appears to have remained in the area for many years. In the 1960s it was fully restored by an owner in Rossendale, Lancs, and then put into storage for over 20 years before being acquired by a Mr Anderson of Surrey. It subsequently found its way to Northern Ireland but returned to England in 2009 and regained its original registration number, TJ 3450.
Still in lovely condition today and very correct in all aspects, it drives beautifully. Additions include a Stainless steel exhaust system and modern flashing indicators. It comes with an owner’s handbook and a quantity of other literature relevant to the model. Altogether a delightful and rare machine that is sure to prove a real talking point wherever it goes. Drives wonderfully and to be sold with Full Service – MOT – Tax and Pdi.
