1954 stellte Alfa Romeo das Giulietta Sprint Coupé vor, um die Wartezeit auf die, sich noch in der Entwicklung befindliche, neue Giulietta-Limousine zu überbrücken. Bereits bei der Vorstellung auf dem Turiner Auto -Salon gingen mehr als 3.000 Bestellungen für die Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint ein, die bereits viele Merkmale aufwies, die heute noch das Design Alfa Romeos prägen. Die Alfa Giulietta Sprint hatte es faustdick unter der von der Carrozzeria Ghia und Bertone gemeinsam gestalteten Karosserie: Der 1,3 Liter große Aluminium-Vierzylinder der Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint besaß einen Querstrom-Zylinderkopf und zwei obenliegende Nockenwellen – seinerzeit feinste Rennsporttechnik. 65 Pferdestärken resultierten daraus, genug für eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von rund 165 km/h. Doch die Leistungskurve der Alfa Giulietta Sprint zeigte in den Folgejahren weiter nach oben: Schon bald drückten 80 PS auf die Hinterräder, im Sprint Veloce waren es bereits 90 PS. In den sportlichen Varianten Sprint Zagato (SZ) und Sprint Speciale (SS) kamen sogar 100 PS zum Einsatz. Damit knackte das 880 kg leichte Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Coupé, dank der aerodynamischen Karosserie, die 200-km/h-Marke. Die Alfa Giulietta Sprint wurde bis 1965 gebaut.
