Maserati Bora 4.9 one of the last 3 built SOLD (1978) | | | | http://www.mo-vendi.de | This was the first street sport car is a central engine. This model came up while Maserati was still belowing to Citroen. The coupé-coachwork was designed by Giorgio Giugiaro, company Italdesign, in 1969; the craft production of the coachworks were done in Modena, Officine Padane. Typical for that times was the edged outer, external shape and the flat front with folded head lights which achieved with its own V8 engine a maximum speed up to 265 km/h.
Further more typical attributes are the following: several chrome trims, exhaust system with 4 tailpipes and the stainless steel roof. While in-house named type 117, the car was introduced in 1971 at the Auto Saloon in Genève. Due to high costs of petrol at these times, the sale was very aggravating; an average consumption with 25,6 liter on only 100 km!
During that crises Citroen stopped its partnership with Maserati. Because of new selling structures and a complete reorganization the production figures drooped down from 56 in the year 1975 of only 6 in the following year 1976. The car was completely overhauled by Mr. Alejandro de Tomaso, the new director; a total of 571 cars were produced. The sale suffered enormously, due to the fact that the Bora did not fulfill certain criteria’s, such as the American admission to specification regarding the outer noises, safety (bumpers), and exhaust.
Only again in 2004 Maserati came up with a street eligible serial sports car with central engine, called Maserati MC 12, even if there were only 50 for the race sport.
This car here is a very nice Bora in original condition. It belongs to the all past produced Boras. In 1978 just 3 Boras were built. The car was painted some years ago. The hydraulic and the rest of the technical parts are operating properly.
