History : By late 1965 the production of the popular Silver Cloud III drew to a close and a new chapter began in the history of Rolls-Royce with the introduction of the Silver Shadow. From a design perspective, the new Silver Shadow was a major departure from previous models. Rolls-Royces chief designer, the late John Blatchley was entrusted with the styling of the new model. A number of new mechanical innovations were also introduced which included unitary construction, disc brakes and hydraulic self-levelling suspension. The Silver Cloud III’s 6.2 litre power unit was retained until late 1969 when the engines capacity was increased to 6,750cc. The overall result was a motor car equipped with all the luxuries that Rolls-Royce were famous for in a form more suitable for modern motoring. In 1976 the second series of Silver Shadows were released, with rack and pinion steering and updated bumpers. This particular example was purchased in 1980 by the third and most recent owner who is a long term customer of ours. It has been used very sparingly over the past 30 years, largely at functions and formal occasions. It has been maintained in our workshops for many years so we are very familiar with this cars quality. It has covered just 34,900 miles from new, is complete with tools and comes serviced and prepared as per our normal policy. This very nice original low mileage example will certainly provide its next fortunate owner with a great deal of motoring pleasure.
