| | Click here for more info / photos | Early single cylinder Rovers are quite the most delightful cars to drive, helped in no small way by their advanced design which includes an engine with mechanical rather than automatic inlet valves so you get more power. This is combined with a really good three speed gearbox and simple to use controls so it is easy to drive. As well as being strong performers these Rovers were very nicely made and attractive to look at.
This particular Veteran Car Club dated two seater has been the subject of what has clearly been a no expense spared restoration which was comprehensively documented in a photograph album which comes with it. This shows its very careful restoration from original parts to a fully operational car and any inspection of the Rover will show that the work has been carried out to a very high standard. As part of the rebuild it has been fitted with an electric starter which makes it just that bit more useable in modern traffic - there are few worse motoring situations than stalling your veteran car engine at a busy road junction and having to get out to hand crank it in front of a disbelieving and impatient audience of modern motorists!
As well as general veteran car rallies there are also events like the Creepy Crawly Rally which are restricted to single and twin cylinder vehicles so you don't get left behind or run off the road by Mr. Toads in 60 hp behemoths! There is a very active group of single cylinder Rover owners and last year they turned out five 6 hp Rovers for this event so you can join them and start enjoying the fun of owning an early Rover - they will also be a useful source of advice and guidance. The Rover is also the sort of motor car you could cheerfully use for local runs, after all when it was new it was not a toy but was expected to be used as dailty transport, and the more these cars are used the better they get.
