BROOKLANDS COLLECTION OF MEMBERS BADGES & BROOCHES For Sale (1907) | | |
| UNIQUE! If you're after one-upmanship this is 'THE' collection for YOU!...
BROOKLANDS: A complete collection from 1907 to 1942 of ALL the member's lapel badges along with their guests brooches. These are in gilt brass with vitreous coloured enamels and the more important ones are boxed in their original dated mounting cards in packets with membership details on the front cover of the box lid.
Highlights: The collection includes the extremely rare and hard to find Founder members' badge in silver hall marked enamel with 'F' in black enamel the reverse having the hall mark of 1907 the year of the circuit opening. This is complete with its original black & yellow cord colours of Lord Lonsdale an honorary founder member of the BARC and President of the new circuit. The opening of the circuit was June 1907. Also included is the rare 1909 gold Founder member's lapel pin in a fretted out 'B' (for Brooklands) in gold (not hall mkd.). The extremely rare and sort after 1916 Ersatz member's badge, the only one produced in an early form of Bakelite (none were issued for the rest of the wartime years) only a handful were produced. Also I have the very rare Committee member's set for 1939 complete with guests brooches. I Have the member's badges for 1939, 1940, 1941 & 1942 (no guests brooches were issue and none were issued for the rest of the wartime years).
I also have the Brooklands Flying Club and The Aero Club membership badges along with affiliated clubs (no guests brooches were ever issued for them) various 1930's to 1940's dates.
Provenance: Most are from the ex The London Steering Wheel Club in two period glazed and framed locking display cases on adjustable stands. The rest are from various auction houses as Onslows, Charterhouse auctions, Bonhams, RM Sotheby's and private purchases etc. A one-of-a-kind collection that even the Brooklands museum do not have! They would dearly love to have them but I believe Heritage Lottery funding is not used for this type of purchase only for the restoration of the site buildings. Most of their museum collection is from donations.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have the 'complete' run of ALL of the members badges with their guests brooches forming every one issued. A unique collection and most probably the only one in existence!
Note: It took over 25 years to get this collection together and it could never be undertaken today, as stated a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a collector to acquire enjoy and watch this spiral in value! For example I have receipts showing items purchased as the Founder members' badge for near £3,000,the 'B' gold badge for £750, boxed sets average £500 per set, the Ersatz 1916 is valued at £500+ etc.
I'm only selling to fund my new love of collecting the car mascots of Rene Lalique.
