Allard J2X (1952) For Sale | | |
| This exciting car reflects the pinnacle of performance and design that Sydney Allard sought to achieve. With the Chrysler V8 engine coupled to a 4speed manual gearbox, it is no wonder that these cars performed so well at International events at the time such as the Sebring 6 hour race, Watkins Glen, Le Mans 24 hour etc.
Allard production figures indicate that this car [No 3048 ] was dispatched in white with black leather interior to the New York dealer on 2nd April 1952. Unusually this car was fitted with twin side mounts, a very expensive option at the time and a windscreen, and the Chrysler engine was fitted in USA. A letter from Tom Lush who was Sydney Allard's right hand man, and historian and author of the marquee, indicates that the first owner retained the car for around 20 years before selling it on. After passing through the hands of a few more owners, this J2 X was imported into Australia in the late 1990’s.
Now finished in red with the black interior this is a superb example of the model and performs as it should. To recall that this car is almost 60 years old seems truly incredible and the performance is a real testament to the hand of Sydney Allard and his ground breaking ideas.
