Reliant Scimitar GTE *** price reduced *** For Sale (1980)If you’re new to Scimitars then checkout the owners club site at http://www.scimitarweb.co.uk/ where you’ll find buyers guides and a busy forum.
In summary this car gives you 70s style with impressive performance thanks to a high spec engine by the Ford V6 guru John Wade of JW Developments and recent stainless tubular manifolds, excellent handling from the AVO/SPAX adjustable suspension and well chosen spring rates. The brakes are decent for a 30 year old car with recent recon callipers, grooved and drilled disks with EBC YellowStuff pads. A lot of the car has suffered only 6 years of wear and tear thanks to an extensive body off rebuild by previous owner (rebuild photos available). The interior is excellent, the exterior is presentable but suffers from some of the paint defects that are common on fibre glass bodies, the driver’s door dropped slightly but still operates OK. It has a very light modern feeling clutch as I converted it to a concentric slave cylinder using a custom designed CNC machined mounting.
The new owner is welcome to take the new and used parts which came with this car or my previous 6a, some patience and some notice will be required as they are stored in 3 locations. I suspect that there's a lot of value in these parts but I don't have the time to sell them individually, in terms of large items there are approximately 10 alloys, 2 radiators, a 4speed auto gearbox, and a windscreen, there may also be some engine components. I have always purchased new parts where available so have rarely dipped into the parts collection, it's always been my only car so I didn't scrimp on maintenance.
Owned since 2006, used daily up until Jan 2012.

22/04/2012 Update of further details which might be of interest to potential buyers:
The engine spec is as follows:
JW Developments High efficiency unleaded heads, as well as porting I believe this spec includes oversize inlet valves but I'm not 100% certain.
JW Developments High torque cam.
JW Developments Lightened and balanced bottom end with if I recall correctly a first size over standard re-bore.
JW Developments vernier steel cam gear.
Roller tipped rockers.
Port matched inlet manifold.
Other upgrades include the following:
Modified Weber 38DGAS carb, I don’t have the details of the modification but I believe it's been re-bored and then jetted to suit the engine.
Bosch Distributor with Aldon ignightor ignition and Aldon Flame Thrower coil. The advance curve has also been modified to suit the cam.
The cooling system has been upgraded with the addition of a stainless header tank from Scimitar International. The engine is plumed in the same configuration as earlier Scimitars and Fords with this engine, the theory is that this configuration provides improved cooling to the rear cylinders.
As well as the usual stainless steel petrol tank and exhaust it has some small one off hand made stainless parts like the bonnet latch cover, battery bracket and foot rest, along some other purchased items like the rear hatch handle and wheel nuts with the Scimitar sward emblem.
One of a small batch of heated windscreens that were manufactured is fitted to this car.
The rear hatch is a later Middlebridge item, externally they look identical but the construction is improved. This was an accidental upgrade as it was supplied by autoglass when the original screen cracked.
Matching Yokohama tyres are fitted all round with good tread.
Panasonic CD player capable of playing MP3s. This is running front speakers only as I did not wish to cut into such a nice interior but wires have been ran to the rear.
Cibbie halogen headlights.
You may notice that all of these items are quite subtle and with the exception of the CD player preserve the original look, the intention has always to enhance rather than to radically change the car.
The photo of the chassis shows a front outrigger which is one of the most common places to rot as it gets spray from the front wheel, as you can see this one is in excellent condition and is representative of the rest of the chassis.
