STUNNING PORSCHE 356A LHD * SOLD THANK YOU * SOLD (1959) | | |
| | The Angel of Death is a stunning tribute to the early Porsches that ran in the Grueling Carrera Panamericana in Mexico. This car was delivered to Hoffman in New York in April of 1959.It was originally Silver/5706 with red Leatherette interior & is Left hand drive.The period livery is removable. This 356 was a racing car at some point in its life & comes with its original (SCCA & PCA) racing log books indicating it was last raced in 1996 at Limes Rock. It was converted to fast road spec by its last owner, I presume to do the classic mexican road race. He acquired it in Delaware in 2005 & shipped it to California where the work was carried out. On his returned to the U.K in 2008 he shipped the car back home with him.The car looks incredible & goes so well, it really is a well sorted Porsche.
Here is some of the spec head lamp guards,bonnet straps,perspex glass all round with the exception of the windscreen,carrera style window lifts,alloy carrera wing mirror,550 style rear vents (I fitted perspex behind these as its know to rain on occasion in Scotland!) The engine is something else (912 unit) turning out 125BHP @ the rear wheels (dyno sheet inc.),full flow oiling system,remote filter & twin front oil coolers.solex carburetors,Skirmants trumpets & air filters,Bursche exhaust system with removable silencers,electrics converted to 12 volt system with an optima dry cell battery. Transmission is through a close ratio gearbox (1st is a bit long but then wow!) powder coated wheels shod with Yokohama tyres.The brakes & suspension include Empi annular style discs units.Boxed swing arms,Weltmeister roll bar,Koni shock absorbers & braided brake lines. The rear, thicker torsion bars are employed with weltmeister bushings,Empi annular style disc brakes with integral handbrake,koni shock absorbers. skirmants camber compensator, internal brake compensator & an up-rated dual circuit brake master cylinder.
The interior has also been extremely well considered with recent Auto international german weave carpet set in red with cream edging. Original Speedster seats in red on aluminum frames & supports,new rubber floor mats, fire extinguisher ( needs refill ) ,a full bolt in roll-bar,TRW five point racing harnesses (timed out).Moto Lita steering wheel,The dash benefits from a period radio, Carrera electric tachometer,an oil pressure gauge in place of the clock & a set of rally style stop watches.
This car has since taken part in a number of Porsche club events & was invited to be shown on the PCGB stand at the Goodwood Festival of Speed .It was last show at the Scottish concours last summer & won 1st prize however it's not a concours car but shows amazingly well . If you could own only 1 Porsche this is it. Looks fantastic,Drives fantastic,this is a truly fantastic 356, the best driving 356 we have ever owned.
