TOTALLY AMAZING MG MIDGET IN ORIGINAL CONDITION For Sale (1973)We have for sale my 1973 MG midget, which i have owned for just short of 5years. She is in excellent original condition, with just 72,760 miles on the clock. Am the last in line of the 4 careful owners she has enjoyed in her life.
This car has never been in the hands of Mr Welder, nor had a replacement panel fitted. There are plenty of nice restored Midgets out there for the 3-4k mark, but this car cannot be bought for that kind of money, so please no emails asking me to take 4k for it. Restoration cars are fine and often are the best that is around, and nearest to the car that actually came out of the factory, but there restorations not originals. Also with restro cars there’s always how good actually is the restoration, and the parts that were fitted during the restoration. Here we have a true original car, with FULL and documented service history.
How many times does a 39year old original car, having had only 4 owners, low guaranteed mileage, with full service history come on the market? Well here is your chance to buy one!
Don’t get me wrong this is not a concourse car, and supports the odd stone chip touching up, and there’s a bit of this and a bit of that, buts its 39years old and would easily compare to any decent 2 year old car. Most so called concourse cars are resto projects taken to the ultimate level of perfection, but again are not originals. This car could be made an ‘original concourse car’ if the new owner wish to spend the time. There’s a little job for you!
So more about the car....
It was purchased in July 1973 by the 1st owner Mrs J Marsh, from Marshell of Lincon, a British Leyland dealer at the time (and still in existence today selling LandRover!) and straight away wiped down the road to the local Zibart center, were it received its rust proofing, only to return 10 years later to have it done all over again!
Mrs Marsh was the proud owner of this car for 25years and taking the car to the mileage of 54,830 in June 1997. In this time the car had a staggering 34 services all documented in the service passport and invoices, with most of the services done at Marshells. In this time there were also 2 reapplications of rust proofing, minor paint work, and other repairs carried out and is all documented in a mass of old invoices.
In March 1998 the 2nd owner a Mr Mark Stocks took charge of the looking after of this little gem. Again although Mark only kept the car a mire 6years it was well looked after and 5 further services were carried out, taking the car to 59,067
Its new 3rd owner took over in Feb 2004 being Mr Andre Tempest the owner of ‘The Old Star Garage’ in Collingham, nr Leeds. Anyone that knows Andre, knows that he would only deal in the best cars that money could buy, be it a bottom or top end car, it had to be the best or he would simply not entertain you. He ran this car as his day to day car clocking up a massive 10k in 3years, before deciding to put it in his showroom for sale. Again in his ownership it was serviced 6 times, and various other repairs carried out including another coat of waxoil.
This is where i come in, just passing ‘The Old Star Garage’ one sunny day and there was this yellow Midget on the forecourt, for sale. I glanced and drove by, knowing it would be pricey, but 5 miles down the road i was still thinking about that shinny Midget. It got the better of me and i ended up turning around and as they say the rest is history!
In my ownership i have covered just under 4k in my 5 years, and carried out many little repairs and a oil change at 71k., and again given this fantasic car another waxoiling, although i have also removed some!
It had to be said that the original Zibart form new has saved this car and helped no end to keep rot at bay, it did its job and if recoats were applied it would not dry out and would continue to protect. Unfortunatly lots of cars that had the Zibart treatment were not so lucky as this one and were never retreated and the rust eventually took hold. That said the Zibart guys put it everywhere, not just in the box sections, but all over the boot lid, door pillars, engine bay etc. I have as you will see from the photo removed it from the boot lid, and one door pillar and started to remove some from under the bonnet. In truth its the only thing that lets the car down, yet without it the car would have been long gone. I was waiting for something to go wrong and needing the engine out and i would hit removing the sticky black stuff, but going to be the new owners job now!
Its amazing just how good that Zibart was, just look at the photo of the jacking point with the cover plug removed, its like new! Not a new sill, a 39year old one, doesn’t that sum it up!
To sum up...
A true original car, never welded, low mileage with FSH, 4 owner, lots of history including original sales brochure, manual, all tax disc’s and mots from 1980 onwards.
