1970 saw the release of what was to be become the most iconic sports car ever produced in Australia. The Ford Falcon XY GT. Dominating at the legendary Bathurst race track the GT quickly proved itself as the fastest production sedan of the era. A highly desirable car both then and now the GT Falcon is the most recognisable car in Australia.
With a large and aggressively styled air cold air intake protruding from the bonnet and bold stripes on the side the GT became known locally as “Shakers”, nicknamed from the shaking action at idle from the intake scoop. The GT is powered by a 351 5.7 litre Cleveland V8 producing 224kw with 515nm of torque.
This two owner car is in excellent condition and is accompanied by a letter from Ford Australia proving its authenticity. It had a full rotisserie restoration on the exterior paint and a refresh on the engine in 1997 and was rebuilt by its then owner with all the original parts. The Light Saddle interior is all original as are all the chrome finishes. It has the optioned 36 Gallon fuel tank and sounds absolutely fantastic. The car is a multiple trophy winner and has claimed such titles as ‘Top Australian’, ‘Best in Show’ and ‘Best Muscle’. Kept as original as possible the car is a credit to both owner and is a true example of an Australian Icon.
