Reluctantly for sale is my stunning 1972 Buick Riviera ‘Boat-Tail’. I’d been looking for a ’72 for a long time, both here and in America. This example became available last year; it was part of the private collection from a deceased estate and was located in Flint, Michigan, only a few miles from the Buick factory where this beauty rolled off of the production line in May 1972. I stored it at a friend’s house in Michigan and then had it shipped to the UK earlier this year. Unfortunately, due to recent ill health, I have neither the energy nor enthusiasm to do all the things I had planned for this car.
Finished in Burnished Bronze metallic with contrasting Sandalwood interior, this car is what the Americans would call a ‘survivor’ and the recorded 93,000 miles are almost certainly genuine though sadly I have no history to warrant this. It has had one repaint in the original colour but apart from that is all original, it even has the original wheel changing instruction decal and a ‘Sears Tires’ sticker for a new set of radials in 1974 on the inside of the boot lid! The paintwork has a rich deep shine and although there are some minor imperfections in the paint, you have to look hard for them. Carpets are excellent, as is the interior apart from a small spilt at the base of the driver’s backrest which would be an easy repair. Electric seats are working fine as is the radio.
All seems good mechanically, I have not driven it far myself but my friend in Michigan who stored it for me used it several times and said it drove superbly. It has 4 excellent Uniroyal ‘Tiger Paw’ white-band tyres on the lovely optional period chrome wheels. Only important thing to mention is that the fuel gauge is inoperative, it is optimistically stuck on three quarters full!
Since the car has been in the UK, I have had the lights modified to comply with UK regulations and the rear brakes have had new cylinders and shoes. These were the only major things needed for it to obtain an MOT. I have not registered the car yet, I am waiting for the appropriate forms to arrive from DVLA so if you may be interested in the car and would like to be the first owner on the V5 then please give me a call. All import duties have been paid and I have the Customs paperwork and US title here. As mentioned earlier, there is no history with the car other than an original handbook and sales brochure.
Please contact me for further details or to arrange to see the car. I am having problems uploading photos to the site but can email them to you if you are interested.
