Daimler Sovereign 1977 Coupe in stunning dark blue. This is a beautiful and rare classic, one of 200 left from only 1,700 ever made. Over two years of ownership no expense has been spared, however I am now downsizing to an MG and can't keep 2 running !
The Daimler Sovereign Coupe is the 2 door version of the highly successful series 2 Jaguar XJ/Daimler Sovereign line. This is 4.2 litre straight six car, based on the classic XK engine, with all the refinements you would expect from Daimler including automatic gearbox & electric windows. When running, the car wafts along effortlessly.
Good points:
1977 Daimler with correct Daimler grill & boot, facelifted in the 80s/90s by a previous owner to a Series 3 spec with rubber bumpers front & rear, series 3 steering wheel and series 3 pepperpot wheels
Good overall cosmetic condition externally
Good interior with very good headlining, leather on front two seats is tired
Poor starter but runs well once running
Bad points:
Slight damage to boot lid from previous owner
Poor starter despite manual choke conversion, carbs may need tuning
Leather on seats tired/crazed - rip on drivers seat
No radio/stereo
One electric window does not work - have spare motor & glass
Work done:
Professionally waxoyled during the last two years by Rustmaster and kept dry & garaged
New radiator
Head gasket replaced during last two years and valves replaced so now runs happily on unleaded
Expansion tank repaired in last two years
Kenlowe fan replaced by re-installation of original fan
Electronic ignition removed and replaced with new points system
New tyres all round
The car is not starting well at present, has no MOT and will shortly be declared SORN. I believe the non starting is largely down to lack of use. Last MOT advisories are - minor exhaust leak, rear brake discs wearing thin, parking brake efficiency so nothing major/structural known.
You are welcome to come and inspect the car in Southwater near Horsham. Payment is via bank transfer or cash only please. I will not ship the car abroad without you coming to collect the vehicle in person and settling payment.
