Produced from 1963 until 1968, the Jaguar S-Type was a technically more sophisticated and luxurious development of the Jaguar Mk II. The exterior, mechanics and power of the model were largely the same as the Mk II, but the independent rear suspension gave improved road handling and a more practical boot space. The S-Type outsold its brother at the time, although today it is a rarer motor car than the Mk II.
The vendor of this example informs us that it was registered in January 1965 and delivered in Westminster Blue with grey leather interior. We understand that the Jaguar has been maintained to a high standard, regularly serviced and has covered 80000 miles from new. Some 8000 miles ago, the entire front and rear suspension units were renewed and the engine was completely overhauled and converted to run on unleaded petrol (invoices and photographs of which are included in the file). For durability, a Daimler Sovereign automatic gearbox was also fitted at that time. Recent works carried out include the fitting of a new stainless steel exhaust system, new tires, a new battery, electronic ignition and an oil cooler.
We are told that the motor car has been Waxoyled, but there are some cosmetic paint defects which need attention. The leather and walnut interior is in very good condition and is equipped with a radio cassette player. The seat belts have been removed, but are supplied with the motor car and can be easily refitted.
The extensive history file contains two original sales brochures, the first owner’s Service Policy, first owner’s Manufacturer’s Warranty Certificate, the original maintenance chart, old road tax discs and the aforementioned invoices and photographs. A complete set of MOT test certificates dating from 1973 are also included in the file, together with the current which expires 16.5.2013. The tax exempt road fund license is valid until 30.4.2013. Some spare parts are supplied with the S-Type.
