Rare Japanese classic, only 36K miles, super car. SOLD (1991) | | |
| | Daihatsu Applause 1991. 1.6 GXI Automatic (4speed). 11 months UK MOT. REDUCED FOR A QUICK SALE, CAR IS A BARGAIN AT THIS PRICE.
Excellent car, drives as new.
Only 36K genuine miles from new (all mot certificates are here).
Car has a full stainless steel exhaust system fitted.
Recently went straight through the MOT in Northern Ireland which is the most stringent in the UK. No advisories.
Recent work done:
Full service, inc oil, all filters, new champion plugs, cooling system drained and replaced with new coolant.
New front brake discs and pads (I bought new pads for the rear discs as well but it doesn't need them).
These will go with the car.
New wiper arms all round
New thermostat.
Timing belt has just been replaced.
The car has 4 x 15" Lenso alloy wheels, with almost new Champiro tires (2000 miles on them).
I had these wheels from another car and they fitted, so I put them on.
These are in practically new condition and alone must be worth £200 at least.
The original Daihatsu alloys (14") are also in good condition (see pic) and will go with the car also. The 2 front tires on these have 90% tread and the other's are also good. The spare wheel is present and has never been used.
These cars have the Daihatsu A101 1.6 fuel injected engine, which also was used in the petrol 4x4 Fourtrak jeep.
It's a very powerful engine with 103 HP, yet very easy on fuel. 40-42 MPG, no problem.
This car has the 4 speed automatic gear box fitted, which is silky smooth and faultless. I've always believed that the Japanese make the best automatics by a mile.
The interior is like new with excellent velour seats that are fully adjustable and very comfy indeed.
There's no wear and tear marks anywhere in the interior.
The exterior is excellent for its age, but does have a few age related marks and stone chips. The bumpers have a few scratches, but there's no bubbly paintwork or rust issues and the car is 100% straight from every angle. The paintwork is still remarkably shiny for a 20 year old car.
The car has never seen any filler or had any welding.
The underneath of the car is rock solid and was professionally undersealed in the past year.
The MOT inspector commented on how tight the car was underneath and said it was 'like new'.
There's not a rattle from the suspension, all in fine fettle.
The car has a Daihatsu fitted tow bar with electrics and a caravan awning hook up supply.
The previous owner had a tiny vintage caravan that he used to take to car shows in the Summer months.
These cars were expensive when new, compared to mainstream competition (£10,000 in 1991) and as Daihatsu were never plentiful as regards dealerships, they didn't sell in large numbers. The Applause was very well finished with 4 x electric windows, electric mirrors, power steering and central locking. All electrics work as they should.
The car has a great heater and ventilation system which is rare on cars of this vintage.
The rear window demister still works very well.
The car looks like a saloon but is actually a hatchback with a large and very practical loading capacity.
They were one of the 1st cars to have side impact protection bars in all doors and rear disc brakes as standard.
According to the DVLA there's only 3 of these models left in the UK.
They share some of the same parts as certain Toyota models, so parts availability is still excellent and can be got on ebay very cheaply (a new timing belt for the car was only a tenner). Toyota have owned Daihatsu since the 1970's, but they've always developed their own cars independently.
Daihatsu are pulling out of Europe altogether in 2013 and will concentrate solely on domestic sales, where they have a big slice of the small car market in Japan and similar territory, so this only adds to the rareness of these cars.
This is a very very good car, which could easily see another 20 years with minimal care.
You can get classic car insurance for this car with no problem at all (£150 fully comp for me).
You could drive it everyday if you want a runaround or keep it for occasional/show use.
The engine and gear box are as fresh as the day they left the factory. These engines are renowned for clocking up huge mileages and have a reliability factor second to none.
I have the car advertised elsewhere. If it interests you, get in touch. You won't see another like it.
**Note, the car is in cavan, not far from Enniskillen. I can meet prospective buyers and help with transport if necessary.
