The 'Speed Model' is the racing version of the touring 2 litre 15/98. 23 chassis were laid down in 1936 to enable eligibility for Le Mans. Two works cars were produced but Le Mans was cancelled in 1936 due to labour difficulties. However Speed Models did compete in the Ulster TT, in later Le Mans, Spa, Mille Miglia, Brooklands and Donnington, as well as speed events and hillclimbs all over Europe, giving many of the cars significant race history and proving the model to be fast reliable and competitive. The last cars were bodied by E. Bertelli just prior to the war and given aerodynamic bodywork, known as the Type C.
This particular car has always been a 2 seater and is currently fitted with 'Ulster' type two seat bodywork as fitted to the Stallybrass Speed Model and the Horsfall 'Black Car' by the works. The car underwent a meticulous rebuild by marque expert David Jones over a 15 year period. Since then the engine has been fully rebuilt with billet crank and steel conrods all on shell bearings.
Fitted with powerful hydraulic brakes and a wonderful close ratio crash gearbox the Speed Model is a joy to drive and should be considered as a high specification racing car for the road.
Used in AMOC rallies and on the Mille Miglia (three times) this Speed Model is ready to go and has proven to be very reliable over the period of its present ownership (over ten years). The car is in my showroom and can be inspected and tested at any time.
