It's hard to believe the Chevrolet Camaro has only been around since 1967. The model enjoys a worldwide almost cult like following that is achieved by relatively few competitors. There were hard tops and convertibles, automatics and manuals, and option lists that could take you from performance to luxury. These first generation examples, ('67 - '69), were equipped with a variety of engine sizes to fit different buyer categories but because of GM's mandate, none of the motors were larger than 400 cubic inches. Enter one Don Yenko, a talented Chevrolet dealer who could "make a Camaro sing" like no other. Starting in 1967, the principal improvement was replacing the stock Camaro engines with the L72 427 made for the Corvette. This '68 Yenko Camaro Tribute stays true to that vision.
The Le Mans Blue paint lays over smooth sheet metal all around. Take a look at that Yenko inspired dual hood scoop which first appeared in '68. It adds an aggressive aspect to an already competitive looking muscle car, and who doesn't think those concealed headlights aren't over the top cool? I bet you thought you would never own a car with a vinyl top again, right? Think again, it works well here. Add the white stripe along the nose along with the hood pins and Yenko badges nose to tail and everyone knows this isn't a pedestrian Camaro. The chrome and glass are both in similar strong condition to match the rest of the car.
The back to black all around cabin is simple and straight forward and continues the message that this car is all about performance. The vinyl seating is easy to care for and has held up well with the front bucket seats providing good support. no doubt that they have been rebuilt sometime in the past. Likewise the door panels, headliner and carpeting are all in similar very good condition. All the instruments including the speedometer, tachometer, ammeter, and oil pressure are in working order.
The engine is none other than the 427 generating a thumping 450 horsepower. It starts up quickly and the dual exhausts' rumble will bring attention wherever it goes. The engine bay itself is detailed nicely for the show circuit and shows evidence of a rigid maintenance schedule. Correct paint, chrome, and stickers are all in place. The 4-speed manual transmission runs through the gears smoothly and is the perfect match for the 427. Add power disc brakes, power steering, a set of 4.10 gears and this Camaro has performance to match the appearance. The underside is as clean as the top and as professionally detailed as the engine bay itself. Replica redline tires look right, especially on those gorgeous Torque Thrusts with Yenko centers.
It's obvious that the past owners have spent much time and money making this tribute more than just cosmetic. If you want the show and the go, call us today!
