Mercedes 250 Coupe The finest original RHD you will find For Sale (1966) | | |
| Border Reivers are delighted to offer this beautiful 1966 Mercedes Benz 250 SEB Coupe for your consideration.
In 1965 the 250 replaced the 220 range. The 250 Coupé was almost as quick as the 300, and it also shared the bigger cars' disc brakes.
Twist the ignition key and the fuel pump whirrs, priming the mechanical injection and the straight six fires into life. Acceleration is authoritative rather than ultra-strong, with wholesome unfaltering pull into the 90s and beyond. Few would have been disappointed by such brisk, torquey pick-up in the 60`s.
It's no sports car this Benz, but far tidier in its handling than the wallowing Cadillac and Lincoln coupés that this car was designed to compete with in Beverly Hills. This was a car for mature men (or women) with nothing to prove, drivers more at ease on the crunchy gravel of the golf club drive than pushing their pride and joy to the point of unseemly tyre-screech.
No, the 250 SE Coupé is best enjoyed as a dignified grey-templed wafter, side windows lowered for that swish open-plan look, Sinatra crooning on the eight-track as you soak up the quality - from the click of the wiper switch to the well-engineered feel of throttle linkage - and enjoy the firmly damped suspension.
Used as such, it's a fine car: exclusive, handsome, built like an expensive piece of furniture it radiates taste and good-living, if not gut-churning excitement.
The Benz cognoscenti have always known how good the W111 coupés are, seeking them out long before the trendies adopted the cars in the 1980s; at one time it seemed as if every photographer in Notting Hill owned one. Beautifully built, rare and timelessly handsome the coupés are fully deserving of classic status.
Few post-war Mercs rank higher in the desirability stakes.
The Mercedes 1960s 250 Se coupes have become in huge demand over the last few years and are one of the highest climbers in the Classic car market.
This Mercedes is indeed very special having a full service history from day one. This Mercedes is totally original in the traditional, Silver arrows, Silver with contrasting blue leather upholstery with just 50000 miles from new this must be the finest unrestored RHD Mercedes in the world and a credit to its previous custodians. Read the history & look at the pictures.
Mechanically, The engine bay is as it should be and you would expect from this original car. The 2496 cc engine has only covered 12000 miles after receiving a new short motor from the official Mercedes Benz dealer Dick Lovett on the 12th of December 1986 when the milage was just 38312. The Automatic gearbox is smooth & works as it should.
The suspension handles the road well and rides the bumps very smoothly, in-fact everything mechanical is just as it should be having been regularly serviced. The tyres are new 0 miles. These are on refurbished 14'' wheels. The car has amazing presence on the road and is a pleasure to drive. It is currently mot'd until 20-5-2013
Bodywork. The shell is totally rust free car. Let me repeat totally rust free (The condition is astonishing). You can see the spot welds under the rear arches.
The paintwork is excellent and of the high quality you expect from Mercedes-Benz. This is the last of the hand built Mercedes-Benz.
Interior, This is just as stunning as the rest of the car and as new. This is by far the best original Mercedes interior we have seen. Blue leather upholster with just the correct amount of patina. This really complements the Silver exterior. Nothing has been spared all the carpets have been replaced only due to fading. The head-cloth is spotless. The wood work on the dash has been re-varnished again due to sunlight & time. The large electric sunroof is a very desirable extra & works perfect. The is a nice place to be and Smells fantastic.
