Stanley Steamer 607 four passenger touring car. For Sale (1914)1914 Stanley 607 steam car.
This is a lovely touring car that steams very well, it was restored to correct specification by Carl Amesley in the USA in the 1980's, then imported in the early 1990's. During the 1990's the car had extensive work done by John Goold (Vintage Steam Restorations, Bath,UK.) including a new wire wound boiler, main burner and pilot, full mechanical rebuild, with new cranks, hard chromed piston and valve rods, all new gears and bearings in the back axle, etc, etc (all reciepts and details on file). The back axle was upgraded with a higher ratio for better cruising speed.
Since this work the car has completed several SCCGB tours and has proved a very reliable and pleasurable drive.
The car now has a nice patina of an older restoration, the deep buttoned leather seats are very comfortable, there is a full hood and side screens, and with the more enclosed body with doors, makes an ideal car for family touring and yet isn't to big or heavy to tow on a trailer.
The car has current MOT (although I gather next year won't need one!), tax and boiler certificate (until October 2013) and is ready to use.
The brakes have been converted to hydraulics, with recent new wheel cylinders and internal and external linings. The lights are converted to electric (very subtley).
The car is now reluctantly for sale after being in the same family ownership for the past 20 years.
