Signal Red with Black Leather, Black Carpets and Body Coloured Surrey Top. Light Walnut Dash Board, Wooden Moto-Lita Steering Wheel, Wooden Gear Knob, Over Drive Gearbox, MX5 Fully Adjustable Sports Seats (Also Original Style Black Leather Seats), and Chrome Wire Wheels.
This car was comprehensively restored in 1990 at ME & AW Pumford, Sports and Performance for its 4th owner. The restoration was done to a fantastic level of detail and is recorded in a photo album that comes with the history file. The body was removed from the chassis and was a true ‘nut and bolt’ job. Twenty Two years later (with just one extra owner during this period) the TR5 presents in exactly the same concourse winning condition. The body has exceptional panel fit and very good quality paint work and is free from rust, dents, scratches and other imperfections. It is amongst the very best TR’s we have seen.
This car is fitted with a full set of chrome wire wheels with a matching set of Goodyear tyres, these are all in very good order with even ware pattens and over 5mm of tread all round. The TR5 came with disc brakes as standard upfront with drums at the rear. These are in very good condition and with a recent fluid change stop the car very efficiently.
The engine and overdrive gearbox in this TR5 were rebuilt during its restoration in 1991 and have been very well maintained ever since. The car is in exceptional mechanical condition starting with ease, settling to an even idle quickly and giving the TR fantastic performance. There is little or no oil consumption and the car will cruise all day long at motorway speeds with total comfort. The engine bay stays at an even temperature through all types of driving and the overdrive engages quickly, working on 3rd and 4th gears.
There is a fantastic history file with this car dating back to 1978 when it was campaigned as a race car. It was taken off the road in 1988 and restored over a two year period to a concourse level with fully rebuilt running gear. It was re-MOT’d on April 30th when the odometer showed 41,592 miles. Since that date the vehicle has had just two keepers and has been beautifully maintained. There is a full set of MOT’s and plastic files full of invoices to confirm the extent of the original rebuild and maintenance since. We have had the honour of keeping this car in top condition since 2010 and have loved having it here for servicing and minor improvements. There are many picture charting it’s history and entry into countless events as well as plaques and entry brochures. It has an agreed valuation for insurance of £45,000.
