1986 Ford RS200S (Special 1 of 16) for sale by original owner
Three times F1 World Champion Jackie Stewart played a major role in developing the road-going version. Two times World Rally Champion Stig Blomqvist lead the Ford team for the rally version. F1 specialist Tony Southgate shared in it's mechanical design. Italian design studio Ghia penned it's body. By the end of it's first season, the RS200 had won four major rally championships - the British Open, Belgian, Dutch, and West Euro Cup - and had recorded 21 international victories.
You are offered a rare opportunity to own a part of Group B Rally car history - an opportunity to own a very limited, one of sixteen, "S" or "Special" road-going Ford RS200's.
This car has about 2500 miles since new, was never raced, and possesses original chassis and engine numbers from the factory. Of the 200 cars manufactured by Ford, only 146 were sold, the remainder being broken for spare parts. Only 16 road cars and 4 EVO rally cars were created with the un-badged "S" or "Special" designation. Ford installed practically every available option to enhance performance and drivability at an additional cost of thousands of English Pounds.
Features unique to the Special version include an upgrade on the Cosworth motor from the standard 250bhp to 350hp. This particular car's motor has since been updated by Julian Godfrey Engineering and has almost zero mileage. Original displacement and standard bore have been maintained while the horsepower has been increased to 425bhp on street fuel and an amazing 520 bhp on racing fuel. This car has a Cosworth Pectel SQ6 computer, Ford Motorsports cams, the big turbo, Bosch detonation sensors, Lambda sensor, eight position traction control, 6 puck twin pack AP racing clutch, and a hydraulic centre throwout bearing.
The Special cars have Ford Motorsport roof mounted air scoops as homologated for Group B, a rally lamp pod with 2 driving lamps and 2 pencil beams, an extra heavy duty alternator, powder coated suspension parts, and a four wheel drive shifter and linkage installed and locked in centre position. The interiors are upgraded with power windows, air recirculation with improved duct work, Aston Martin Tickford charcoal carpet with red piping, a leather-wrapped Stig Blomqvist signature steering wheel, dual horns, a stereo cassette radio with roof mounted antenna, central locking, a security alarm system, luxury Recaro leather seats with special cloth centre panel "S" trim, the door pockets are trimmed with fabric identical to the seats, halon fire extinguisher, and 4 point harness hard mount points were installed. A Sabelt 4 points harness is included, but not installed. Complete inspection and adjustment of every component performed. The "S" cars were basically completely overhauled to ensure reliability and road worthiness. The owner states that the "S" road-going car is more practical to drive on the street than the EVO rally version car, of which he has driven many. He says EVO cars do not have as much power below 6000rpm. Info about the "S" cars designation can be found at http://www.rs200.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=250&t=218
One pair of RS200 red kevlar rally bucket seats are included and are currently installed, paint is original and in excellent shape. The car does not have air conditioning, and the toolbox is missing. The owner is motivated to sell hence reduced price of $160,000 Cdn or best offer. The car was originally registered in Canada and is located in Vancouver BC. All original parts including original tires have been kept and are included, with the exception of the muffler, tailpipe, and shift knob.
A competitive rally with group B cars is took place Aug 25-26 2012 in the UK. An extremely rare occurrence since the hugely expensive & powerful rally cars were banned for being "too fast to race" in 1986. see www.rallyegroupeb.com
