I must start by saying that as a veteran and vintage car broker I am new to the world of public transport vehicles so I apologise in advance to all coach enthusiasts who pick up any errors in my terminology. However I do know a fair bit about old vehicles in general and I recognise a good quality well restored vehicle when I see one and this lovely coach definitely falls in that category!

This particular front engine 22 seat Leyland Cub on chassis KPZ1 5484 is a Harrington Coachworks of Hove bodied example which I understand to be quite rare. It was delivered new to Southdown Motor Services of Brighton in 1936 and registered as CUF 404, staying in service with them until 1953 when it was sold to Jersey Motor Transport. It eventually returned to England where it was extensively restored and is now in really excellent condition.

Its coachwork is very sound indeed with really smart and blemish free paintwork and the seating has been trimmed using correct cloth which matches the one remaining original seat cover! It has lots of original lovely period features such as door handles and various internal signs and the fully working set of instrument and switches look to me to be original. I understand the route indicator is complete, correct and also fully functioning.

The six cylinder overhead valve 4.7 litre petrol engine fires up very readily and runs very smoothly, indeed the whole vehicle goes very well indeed without any undue noises coming from the transmission and it steers well and stops well so will be a very drivable addition to any collection.

As well as being an attractive vehicle to have in its own right it also present some interesting business opportunities as perhaps transport for wedding parties or for historic country tours to suggest but two – there must be a host of different activities which could help to earn its keep whilst giving you the pleasure of owning a real slice of motoring history.
