Griffith 4.6ltr pre-cat, rebuilt For Sale (1992)Price reduced, Sale now needed, needs to be seen to be appreciated, all serious offers considered.

1992 J plate TVR Griffith 400 Pre-Cat, a very early car which has undergone a complete ground up restoration with some serious modifications whilst keeping the appearance and essence of the original Griffith 400.
Full body off restoration during 2008, chassis stripped back to bare frame, every single component removed and either replaced or refurbished, including new powerflex bushes, all new bolts, new brake lines, new fuel lines and new ball joints. The Chassis was sand blasted to reveal any corrosion which was only minor and only in the front corners of the outriggers, these areas were cut out and new outriggers were fabricated and welded in, the chassis was then treated to several coats of zinc primer followed by 2k silver and a final stone chip resistant coat to exposed areas. Brakes were up rated to Cosworth front callipers and 283mm vented discs and Griffith 500 spec rear vented discs and callipers and braided hoses all round. The addition of a 5 stud hub conversion to allow fitment of various later style TVR wheels.
The car is fitted with a new set of Nitron Racing Reds which are a great improvement over standard.
The body shell was treated to a complete all panels off repaint in its original Cooper green. Over the years these cars tend to have their front ends repainted quite often due to stone chip damage so on this car the front had the paint removed right back to fibreglass to remove all those previous layers and thereby making it less prone to chips in the future. This also showed the car still has its original front end and no evidence of any crash damage was found anywhere on the body shell. The car has also been updated with Griffith SE 7" Hella headlamps and pods and whilst the lamp pods were removed the heater intake was also modified and a proper pipe installed to channel air from fan motor to heater matrix giving a much improved heating and ventilation system.
The engine spec is:
Fully rebuilt 4.6 V8
Cross bolted block
Top hat liners
Serpentine front cover with later oil pump
Vernier timing gear
Kent 218 cam
Balanced rods and pistons
Stage 3 "V8 developments" cylinder heads
Ported and matched inlet manifold with 45mm alloy trumpets
Group A rockers & shafts
Lightened and balanced steel billet flywheel and a new clutch
The engine management is taken care of by an Emerald K3 fully mapable ECU, Innovate wideband LC-1 lambda controller with XD-16 serial dash display and bespoke engine wiring loom. All this plus a JP stainless steel exhaust system and a heavily modified induction system which is the Achilles heal of RV8 power gains, makes this engine produce a genuine 327BHP, that's around 50 more real horses than your average over quoted Griffith 500 engine!!
The gearbox is the original Rover LT77 5 speed which has needed nothing other than oil changes. The diff was rebuilt by John Read in 2008.
The interior is Doeskin half leather with alcantara door inserts and gaiters, new quality green carpets fitted this winter, carbon fibre instrument panel, New updated speedo(retaining original design)and new sender, Sportmotive roll hoop and Tuscan steering wheel. The roof panel is also two-piece, with new mohair covering.
The car currently sits on Raceline RL7 16" wheels all round. 16" TVR Spiders are also available as seen in the last photograph or if you really want to, the 5 stud hub conversion will allow the fitment of 18" TVR Spiders.
In conclusion this is a much sought after pre catalytic converter Griffith 400, one of the first cars and therefore one of the most desirable, fastidiously maintained and fully rebuilt from the ground up by its current owner over the last nine years with sensible and serious modifications, virtually every system and component has been improved or updated for performance and reliability to produce an absolutely awesome car, a car which looks from the outside like a pretty original standard car, with the purity of the original Griffith design with its smaller mouth and separate lower front lamps but with performance that far exceeds that of the later Griffith 500 whilst retaining that very special none sanitised, none catalysed V8 noise.
Whilst at home, the car has always been garaged, with cover and de-humidifier in use.
This car has always been treated as a "keeper" and is only for sale as the owner has a new project having owned this Griff for so long.
The car has road tax until September 2012 and MOT until July 2013.
Still wearing its J**GRF plate this much renowned car within the TVR fraternity and Sprint magazine featured is now available.
