1965 Scimitar GTE Sports Special Racecar For Sale (1966)
If you fancy the thought of owning a rare thoroughbred racing car with that ‘Vintage Look‘ but don‘t want to shell out megabucks, then here is the car for you. But this is no fibreglass replica it is a Collector’s item in its own right, handbuilt from the frame up with a stunning bespoke aluminium body, inspired by the Ferrari 166 Corsa of the forties (but not a slavish copy). It is ideal for the Track but is also fully road-legal for touring or rallying.
It employs a factory box chassis, Wishbones, Discs, Rack & Pinion Steering, Live rear axle with trailing arms, Limited slip differential (LSD) 2.6 Ford Zephyr engine, Triple SU’s, Overdrive giving 6-speed, 150bhp. Wire Wheels with chrome spinners, One-off hand-formed Aluminium Bodywork, Brooklands Aero Screens, Leather trim, Tonneau, Fast and safe!
The donor car was a 1965 Reliant Scimitar GTE which had undergone a complete nut and bolt restoration some 17 years previously but only covered 4000 miles since the rebuild. The glass fibre body was removed and resold to another Scimitar owner. The chassis was modified at the rear and the racecar alloy body fabricated in the style of the Ferarri (real ones are priceless as only 3 ever made) The builder has many years experience in the Classic Car field and is somewhat of a perfectionist. He has skilfully built umpteen specials on various chassis in the past. This one took him 9 months of dedication to complete and it was done to a very high standard.
The car has been driven on the Goodwood Race Track and speeds in excess of 100 mph have been recorded. I have personally driven it for 300 miles from the South Coast to Lancashire and it went like a dream. The amount of interest generated by this car is amazing, so prepare to be photographed and quizzed everywhere you go.
It can accommodate tall drivers unlike a lot of racecar designs. It also has a spacious luggage space at the rear.
The car comes with spare wheel on running board, spare tyre in boot, toolkit, workshop manual, history file with previous MOT’s and full photo record of both the original car restoration and the more recent conversion. MOT and free road tax. Helmet & Goggles included. It is registered as a 1966 Reliant Scimitar GTE Sports in the Historic category.
