The Italian Job is one of the best-loved British classics ever made and here is a great opportunity to be part of the 'Self Preservation Society' with this original Mini Cooper S lovingly recreated to Italian Job specification by Pino Lombardi with assistance by David Salamone who sourced and drove the red Cooper in the film. DFW 203C is a genuine 1965 Cooper S with an uprated engine and gearbox rebuilt by specialists MED of Leicester with the bodywork stripped to bare metal and restored by specialists MGOC and painted by MC Body Centre in Cambridge.
In order to give the car the 'Italian Job' look an exhaustive search for correct period parts including minor but important details such as identical Dunlop tyres of the same tread pattern; the tax disc complete with Hackney post office stamp as well as three 1960 Cibie Oscar spotlights and correct Cibie headlamps fitted with guards as per the film all adorn the car.
Lombardi's attention to detail included correct Minilite wheels, Austin boot badge, lamp bar, original Tech Del sump guard, bonnet straps, AA sticker and of course the number plate 'HMP 729G' which is fitted to the car for display purposes only. The fitted roll cage is correct but can be easily removed in order to offer access to the rear seats. The car has even been to the film's main locations in Italy including the Fiat factory roof, the roof jump scene, the 'Miura tunnel' as well as the locations of where the Mini's were dumped from the bus and outside the Villa Regina where Croker and his gang planned their heist.
The lucky buyer will be able to get into character as even the overalls and helmets as worn in the film have been recreated along with Charlie Crokers stolen gold bars in the boot which were sourced from the set of the James Bond film 'GoldenEye' making this car perfect for the Goodwood Revival and the Italian Job Rally in October 2012.
With David Salamone's firsthand knowledge of the original car his input has been vital in creating this authentic and correct Italian Job Mini. With both him and the film's legendary stunt co-ordinator Remy Julienne having taken the wheel of this car and signing the headlining and sun visor this really is a must for any fan of the Italian Job and is supplied with a V5 document, MoT certificate and road fund licence valid until June 2013.
It's 'On Days Like These' that you have to 'Get a Bloomin' Move On' in order not to miss the cheeky little Mini.
