Indian Scout 741B Military Motorcycle SOLD (1941) | | |
| | | http://www.naddervalleyclassics.co.uk/index.asp?section=5&page=295 | Our collection of military motorcycles has grown with the addition of a very nice Indian 741B dating from 1941/2. Much less common than the Harley-Davidson WLAs, the Indian was sold mainly outside America to Allied nations, with around 35,000 being built between 1941-43. It was based on the pre-war civilian Scout, and featured a 500cc sidevalve V-twin with three speed gearbox.
Our bike came from France where it was restored around four years ago. The French army was a major buyer of the Indian so this is probably from that source. It is currently still on French papers but UK registration is a simple process and we can assist with this if required. The restoration was done to a good standard and the bike appears to have most of its original features, including a wonderfully patinated saddle with the embossed Indian logo. More recently the notoriously tempremental clutch has been replaced with a new uprated version and it has been equipped with two new and very expensive tyres and a new battery. It starts and runs well and we have ridden it around our yard. It has been converted to right hand throttle control at some point - a welcome relief to novice Indian pilots already struggling with the left-hand foot clutch and hand gear change!
This is a rare machine of appeal to a broad cross-section of enthusiasts and one certain to be a star attraction at any show. It should also prove an excellent investment.
