As you can see a lot of work has been carried out on this little car - it had been owned by the same person since the early 1980's - I purchased it from him last year with the intention of putting it back on the road in time for this Summer (what Summer ?!). He informed me he had carried out a light restoration in about 1990 - not long before he tucked it away in a barn and decided it was too good to use everyday for commuting.
As always these things always take longer than expected and after 20 years many things had seized or gunged up - the biggest challenge was rotten chassis legs, but rather than patch these (they'd been patched in the past) they were replaced with original spec legs, which of course mean total dismantling of the front suspension.
The car was resprayed in 1990 and this has lasted ok but there are a few bubbles here and there which need attention. The wings are steel and in quite good condition but not immaculate.
After many evenings, weekends, days off.....cut hands, sparks in my eye and all sorts of other 'joys' it almost breaks my hear to sell it but I've run out of time and enthusiasm, we're getting on the housing ladder and the new place has no garage- in fact it has no driveway or road access so I'm either faced with paying for storage or selling it, the costs of moving and furnishing our new place means I'd rather someone else finished off the Wolseley and got some enjoyment out of it (we already have 3 other cars and need to get down to 2, and even that's going to be a challenge when we move).
If I had to say how close it is to passing an MOT I'd say it's about 90% done. The bits I can say for sure that need doing are:
Replacement exhaust needed
Couple of small patches underneath sills - couple of inches long each.
Additionally the edge of the boot 'rain channel' - 8" section has been fabricated and welded in, just needs filling and painting
Piece of trim - diagonal on front wing needs reattaching.
Bumper over riders needed at front.
Condition wise this would make a perfect regular use car - not concours (without more work) - as you can see in the pics the bodywork is presentable, though the pictures flatter it a little. The chrome work is quite 'flat' and could do with either re chroming or replacing. The tyres are all radial and in good condition with plenty of tread.
Underneath is very sound though rusty and has old flaking underseal. Cross member very solid. Floors surprisingly original.
Mechanically the B series engine sounds very smooth and I was assured by the previous owner all was well with gearbox and engine.
Interior is lovely - red leather seats and original carpet. Small 10p size scorch on carpet by transmission tunnel where an inspection lamp bulb was unguarded and fell over before I noticed. No seat belts - these have never been fitted however it has mounting points and I can provide a set of 1960's chrome buckle magnetic KANGOL belts if required. To clarify, seat belts are not required by law in this car.
Included in sale are boxed set of new old stock front brake shoes, 2 spare doors in excellent (but very dirty) condition, bonnet (much the same condition), bootlid (ditto) and front chrome grille. I've tended to collect bits as I saw them on ebay in case I ever needed them in future.
Buyer will need to collect with trailer due to lack of exhaust.
