| | 1964 VOLVO 1800S. LEFT HAND DRIVE
DON'T LET THE FACT THAT IT IS A LEFT HAND DRIVE PUT YOU OFF, AS THE CONDITION OF THESE CARS IS EVERYTHING.
Imported into this country in 1996 and used for a few years, then it was past on and stored with a number of other classics. I purchased the car two years ago and recommisioned it, replacing ALL brake pipes, reconditioning the master cylinder, slave cylinder, servo and having new pistons and seals in the brake callipers. The rear cylinders have also been reconditioned with new seals.
The front and rear suspension was stripped, sandblasted and painted before reassembling with new pollyurathane bushes to the upper and lower wishbones. The car still has the original ball joints that still have the grease nipples on in the right places.
A full stainless steel custom made exhaust is fitted that should last the life of the car.
The car is in quite remarkable original condition. The sills, floor, doors, wings, chasis are all original and in near perfect condition. These cars are notorious for bad rot and poor repairs but this car has survived this due to the californian sun. However the dash top has cracked slightly due to the heat. A couple of the gauges dont work and the carpets, although still serviceable are a little worn.
The front seats needed recovering so a pair of recaro seats have been sympatheticaly fitted to the front, that are almost a perfect match to the rear seats that are original and in excellent condition. They are far easier to adjust and are much more practical with head restraints fitted. The original seats are included and can easily be refitted, as the original location holes in the floor have been used for the replacement seats, so there has been no alteration to the floor.
I have a very good knowledge of these cars, knowing where all the problem areas are and where they are likely to have been poorly repaired. I can say with confidence that this car is sound and solid all over and has no filler holding the car together.
The paintwork has not been touched for some years and although showing some signs of age, has no blistering or bulging of filler or repairs. The panel gaps are perfect due to the fact that the doors, boot, wings etc are all original. The bodywork is the most important part of these cars, you wont be disappointed with the condition. This car has the best original body i have seen on any p1800 i have seen by far.
