Original Press Fleet Lancia Delta 16 M-T (RHD) For Sale (1984)

Here for sale is my Lancia Delta 16-MT, essentially a special edition Delta HF Turbo, where 'MT' stands for 'Martini Turbo', Martini being the former sponsors of the Lancia rally team (apologies for stating the obvious here).
The original Delta was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, voted car designer of the last century and responsible for many iconic cars including the mk1 VW Golf. To quote Wikipedia, the design of the Delta "remained virtually unchanged until 1986", this of course being the 1984 model. It preceded the Delta HF 4WD (the earliest incarnation on the road-going Integrale) on the consumer market and on it's release into the UK this would've been the highest end performance Delta in the Lancia range at that time. This model marks a vital link in the evolution of Lancia which makes it an historic and collectible car.
This example is also very rare, there are only 8 of these left in the UK (See following link: http://howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/lancia_delta_16_m-t), all are sorn. It is highly likely that this example is the only survivor in such impressive condition of the original press fleet brought here by Lancia in 1984 for evaluation by the UK motoring press. It still has the "Lancia Press Fleet" plates, and comes with a selection of contemporary motoring press road tests, and a complete record of all services, remedial work and renovation work. All old MoTs are there to verify the genuine low mileage of 80100 miles and a complete photocopy record of previous registration documents.
A full back-to- the- bodyshell renovation was carried out by Bronington Classic cars in 1994 at a cost of £3,183, including metal replacement of any corroded body parts, and the car is still completely rust free except for a slight, barely visible bubbling up along part of the nearside edge of the roof (see pictures). There is a photographic record of the renovation.
This is the original carburettor version (later models were fuel injected) and is in all original condition, inside and out, including the factory fitted cassette player/AM/FM Radio. Since I purchased the car in February 2008 (at the time I was driving a later fuel injected Delta HF) it has always been garaged and never driven on the road except to be MoT'd or have other work done. During my ownership I have had a new fuel pump fitted and the carburettor rebuilt by a professional auto tuner using a factory original gasket kit. This April I had the car fully serviced and MoT'd, and a new battery and cambelt kit (belt and rollers). The MoT expires 3.4.2013. There are invoices for all work.
Cosmetically the car is in excellent condition and has in fact won a concours competition at some point in the past - which was documented in a past issue of Viva Lancia.
The car starts easily, sounds smooth and as far as I know uses little oil - as I said, it has not been driven much in the last 4 years. It certainly makes no smoke (it has just passed its emissions test), runs and drives well, and everything works. It does have two little foibles: a) central locking: the key locks all the doors from the driver's door, but unlocks only the driver's door - the rest have to be unlocked from the inside, and b) some previous owner has by-passed the thermostat which activates the cooling fan. This is now operated via a switch on the dashboard, which just means you have to keep an eye on the engine temperature in traffic conditions.
There is also a small area of discolouration on the rear seat where a previous mechanic had left an interior panel which had some Waxoyl on it, I have managed to remove most of this and am convinced that with a little more careful work it could be cleaned off completely, failing that, it is possible to get hold of identical replacement fabric, but that shouldn't be necessary.
This car has purportedly been driven by Stirling Moss, although the previous owner kept the photograph as a memento!
The reason for this sale is that the car is currently stored at my fathers address, he is about to move house and will not be able to store the vehicle. Also I can no longer afford to dedicate as much time to this classic as she deserves and would like to see her go to a good home.
The value of this car exceeds the price, which is less than I have spent in total, and will almost certainly appreciate with time.
