Classic Morris Oxford (not Austin Cambridge) For Sale (1961)
Classic 1961 Morris Oxford Farina Series V De Luxe (not Austin Cambridge)
Fintail model with TAX and MOT until April 2013
Regrettably offered for sale is my lovely 1961 Morris Oxford Farina series V Fintail
We use her every day as our family car and she is extremely reliable. The car is surprisingly economical and if driven carefully (as it always is) never fails to return less than 30mpg.
This would be absolutely perfect under normal circumstances but we drive absolutely everywhere and cover some 300 miles a week and have already covered 3,000 miles since the MOT three months ago. She eats up the miles faultlessly but I cannot afford to keep paying out £65 for fuel every week and I don't really like keeping her on the driveway so she is currently in our garage.
I would love to be able to keep her and get a little diesel runabout as an additional car but sadly my pocket just cannot stretch to such a luxury at this time and I can only afford one.
The car has been very well looked after and turns heads wherever it goes. It is in very good condition for its age although the bottom of the doors have the start of some bubbling which will need addressing at some point soon but regardless of this she still receives a huge amount of attention.
These are recent photos taken this week.
The steel sun visor is quite valuable and in fact worth around £200 on its own but as it suits the car beautifully I will not sell it separately.
It has TAX and MOT until the end of April 2013
It has had just 6 owners from new one being my father.
It has covered only 79,000 genuine miles with many old MOT's to prove.
There is a great history file with this car that includes every MOT starting from 1971 which I believe was its first MOT as it was built in 1961 and subject to the then 'ten year test' where it had covered less than 22,000 miles. There are many old TAX discs dating back to the 70's also. The speedo readings on the old MOT's suggest that the car has only ever done just 2 to 3 thousand miles per year between tests so has possibly only ever been used as a second car.
It is a joy to own and a pleasure to drive. It is surprisingly quick and responsive and keeps up with modern traffic without a hitch.
Mechanically this car will get you wherever you want to go without fault. It has had a few modifications over the years including a spin-on cannister type oil filter conversion as fitted to the Morris Marina 1800 which is an absolute god send when it comes to servicing and is definitely far superior to the original paper element type of which the seals are prone to fault.
It has also had a positive-earth to negative-earth conversion so now runs a Lucas alternator which, again is far superior and more reliable than the original antiquated dynamo set-up. This was replaced recently with a brand new unit and is working perfectly.
It has been fitted with a new Quinton Hazel water pump and new engine mounts. A list of miscellaneous jobs far too numerous to list have also been undertaken..
This car is 100% ready to rock and roll.
