In the words of the current owner!
This car has been the subject of a complete body and mechanical restoration and must be seen to be appreciated, the body shell has benefitted from a major rebuild, using Heritage panels in the rebuild, the new body panels were, complete sill replacement with new floor panels, New front wings and bonnet, new doors and rear lower wing repairs, the panel fit is excellent with perfect door gaps and fit. The completed bare metal body shell was then fully stone chipped to the underside and refinished in the correct colour of Tartan red, top bottom inside & out.
The rebuild then commenced with the running gear all rebuilt and refurbished with all parts being either powder coated or painted in the correct colour, the front suspension was rebuilt with the correct rebuilt front shock absorbers and springs the stub axles were rebuilt and refitted with new bushes, new wire wheel hubs have been fitted with new wheel bearings and seals. The Rack & Pinion was stripped, checked and reassembled with new gaiters and track rod ends. New brake discs, callipers and pads finished this area off.
At the rear the rear axle was checked and was found to be needing nothing at all, just a thorough clean and repaint. The brake back plates were powder coated and fitted with new wheel cylinders and adjusters, new brake drums, handbrake cables and hydraulic pipes finish this part off. Now back in the car with new rear springs, shock absorbers and bushes, the front and rear brakes became one with new copper brake lines connected to the refurbished original Master cylinder (Rebuilt by Past Parts).
What next, a new fuel tank and SU electronic fuel pump, together with new copper fuel line from front to rear, a completely new wiring harness threaded from front to rear completes most of the work here. In goes a rebuilt engine (sadly not the original one but an 18GB replacement) and gearbox with overdrive, connect up a prop shaft that has the benefit of new universal joints and boy it’s starting to look the part, on go the rebuilt and re jetted SU carburettors, new 45d distributor, an upgrade to alternator, oil cooler and pipes, stainless steel exhaust system, radiator and hoses and we are ready to fire up the engine for the very first time. What a lovely noise!!!
Right, time for the shiny bits, the interior including headlining in the correct grey vinyl, the sunroof (there’s a story here), the new screens front & rear new drop glass, refurbished front quarter lights, doors built up, dashboard rebuilt after powder coating in the correct crackle finish, no less, all new or refurbished instruments, in go the new carpets and the re upholstered seats in the correct black leather with red piping, there you go, off to the MOT station and were away with a cracking beautiful driving MGB GT
Now you are thinking, wow, I could do that! But it has taken twelve months, several thousands of pounds, and the keen eyed of you will note that I have not told you everything, so when you come to see the car I expect plenty of questions; I have the answers, the photos and the bills and some extra bits that you should know. I look forward to seeing you soon, oh and why am I selling, I just love doing the bit I have just described, if you check the Touch of Classics website you will see my very latest rebuild, a Heritage shell AH Sprite, maybe one for you & one for the wife?.
This car is for sale at £9995, expensive? yes, but worth it?, yes, do come and have a look you will not be disappointed...
