1985 Porsche 928 S2 4.7 V8 Auto Grand Prix White For Sale | | |
| | http://www.QualityCarsToday.co.uk | We took this car in part exchange in December 2010 from an MG / Rover specialist mechanic who used this as his weekend toy. Since we acquired the car, it has been stored in our unit but started regularly. We are now offering the car for sale but we will not accept any silly offers because as everyone knows, these cars are an appreciating asset.
The first thing to say is this car is far from concourse, so it that is what you are looking for this car is not for you. Also, if you are someone who wants a garage queen to look at and polish with no corrosion and original paintwork, again this is not the example for you.
However, if you are in the market for usable classic that has shown 100% reliability in our ownership that can be driven and enjoyed at a very sensible price this may fit the bill.
The Porsche was supplied new to a Miss L.Herivel in August 1985 by A.F.N Guildford. The V5 shows 7 former keepers from new with our customer owning the car for a year and the previous owner having the car 9 years. The previous owner to that had the car for years taking ownership back to 1997.
The 928 is showing 113,083 miles on the odometer and there is no reason to believe this is incorrect although it can not be guaranteed. In terms of paperwork to verify this mileage we have:
-MOT Certificates from 1994 at 58,594 miles right through to the most recent MOT - June 2012 at 113k miles. The only one missing is 2005.
-The original service book with 12 service stamps. The stamps date from May 1986 to April 1998 at 93,932 miles. There is also a portfolio of service invoices that come after this for service, maintenance and MOT work carried out that is very substantial.

The last owner spent a substantial amount of money on the car which included:
-P.A.S Rack
-Fuse Board Mounting Plate + hydraulic engine mount + rear lens £1,023.07 from Porsche Main Dealer (Colchester)
-Falken tyres
-Rear shock absorber
-Plug leads + distributor caps + rotor arms + CV Boots etc etc
As stated above, this car is in good mechanical condition for the age and type of car. I personally drove the car back from Essex to Sheffield and it was enjoyable and faultless. The engine feels strong and responsive pulling well with no misfires or smoke. The automatic gearbox works as it should and is smooth for the era. The 928 always starts first time and there are no warning lights on the dashboard. Good oil pressure and no overheating issues.
Presented in its original colour of rare Grand Prix white with Bordeaux Leather interior this is a very attractive specification indeed. There are multiple areas of surface corrosion around the vehicle but no holes or flaking off of the paint. Some of the rubber seals were replaced by the previous owner but some are showing signs of wear.
There are multiple signs of wear on the interior and a number of broken or inoperative switches. The air conditioning does not work and neither do the electric mirrors or rear wiper. The Clarion CD Player is in full working order likewise the electrics windows and seats. The seats are well worn but original condition.
