The Chevrolet Apache pick-up was only produced for a short period and is seen by many true enthusiasts and collectors as the American pick-up to own. Recognised by the quad headlight design, it was not until 1958 that the model name Apache was fully recognised by General Motors, making this a very desirable production year. As such the example on offer here is truly a rare find this side of the pond.
Fully restored 1958 Chevrolet Apache long wheelbase step-side pickup. Thousands have been spent over the last two years refurbishing as many original parts as possible, rather than simply replacing with lower quality modern alternatives. No customising, no over-chroming, no tuning, just back to factory specification makes this pick-up a delight to behold.
The full details of the extensive restoration are too much to list here but can be summarised as follows:
Chassis bare metal stripped and painted satin black.
Brake system overhaul using many new parts.
Suspension, steering, hub assemblies etc, inspected, lubricated and reassembled.
Wheels taken back to bare metal, repainted and fitted with new tyres.
Drive train totally overhauled and any items needing replacing were replaced with new.
Original 235 cubic inch straight six engine mated to four speed, floor shift box.
Fuel tank fully tested and fitted with new hoses etc.
Pick-up body stripped to separate panels, bare metalled, new front panel, new bed strips, new bed cross members and finished with sheet of top quality marine ply.
Pick-up body fitted to chassis with new fasteners and rubbers
New rear lights, rear bumper, and bracketry.
Cab stripped to bare metal and the following replaced with new: both floors, both inner steps and one exterior corner.
Cab interior totally stripped, primed with black Hammerite, two coats of barr coat, two coats grey high build primer and two coats of paint.
Other items replaced with new include: Headliner, rear window, sweep-sight wrap around windscreen, side windows, glove box interior, sun visor, exterior sun visor, wiper arms and blades, and more.
Complete re-spray in period colours.
And the list goes on and on.
In summary, this pick-up has received a no-expense bare metal restoration with no stone left unturned. She starts on the button (floor mounted) and is an absolute delight to drive. Having only covered a hand full of test miles since completion, all the new owner has to do is fill her up and drive the strip. Offered at a fraction of what these pick-ups cost to restore. Free road fund liscence and she comes with an MOT until May 2013 with no advisories.
