The celebrated Naval Architect and Marine Engineer Alan Burnard was an extremely well known and regarded character in Vintage Motoring circles. Amongst the many career achievements he accomplished, his engineering abilities allowed him to intricately indulge in his passion for motor cars and his achievements within this field were countless.
Perhaps best known for his exploits with Delage Grand Prix cars, in the early 1960s he started to amass parts to build a Bugatti Type 57 to his own specification. Over the decades various elements were gradually added and indeed there is correspondence on file from the early 1980s that documents the purchase of various chassis parts from as far afield as the USA.
As the project sits today, it is based around a longitudinal chassis half and comes with a largely complete engine, various transmission and axle components and much steering and suspension. The engine is that from chassis 57720, notably the project also has a numbered front axle and comes with an abundance of chassis cross-members, has a complete steering box and column and much more besides.
