Delage ERA GP Project SOLD (1927) | | |
| | | http://www.markdonaldson.com/forsale/delage-era | By instruction from the Estate of the Late Alan V. Burnard
The celebrated Naval Architect and Marine Engineer Alan Burnard was an extremely well known and regarded character in Vintage Motoring circles. Amongst the many career achievements he accomplished, his engineering abilities allowed him to intricately indulge in his passion for motor cars and his achievements within this field were countless. As the owner of 2 genuine Delage Grand Prix cars during the course of his automotive hobby, few could be more familiar with the genre than Mr Burnard. It is important to note that by order of his will, he left his Delage 15-S8 GP (car 2) to the Brooklands Society and it has recently been displayed and demonstrated by them.
This project we offer was started from parts that began to accumulate in the late 1970s/ early 1980s when he was able to buy some of the discarded chassis parts and remains of Delage 15-S8 team car number 3. These were from the car that Earl Howe famously crashed at Monza that was not rebuilt. It should be noted that whilst this project was accumulating, he was also endeavouring to reunite car 2 with a straight eight Delage engine and that was to remain his priority. When this task was achieved in the late 1990s attention could then be shared with this project but over the last few years the momentum had sadly slowed.
The plan was to build the project into a Delage ERA and Mr Burnard was able to procure a huge inventory of Delage and ERA components throughout the course of his hobby, what he couldn’t find; he made!
It is fair to say that the project has a good stretch to go but much valuable work has been carried out already and the inventory included will assist massively. In addition to the part assembled chassis, there is another ERA engine, spare ENV Pre-Selector gearbox, various gauges and a host of other ancillaries. Of particular note is the amount and quality of the original Delage parts should that route be considered, these include a cylinder block, largely complete gearbox, rear axle tubes and much more besides.
Available to view by appointment, please enquire for further details including a thorough inventory and supporting photographic log.
