Ford Capri 3.0 Ghia Auto For Sale (1981)This top of the range Ford Capri was first registered on 23rd April 1981, to the Ford Motor Co. Ltd in Brentwood Essex, as a company vehicle for one of their senior managers. In March 1982 the car was sold to a company in Accrington, Lancashire; they kept the car for just over one year.
The third owner, of Clitheroe, Lancashire, acquired the car in May 1983, and went on to own this Capri for over 25 years. He appeared to use it little in later years, with the mileage only increasing from 44,739 in November 1997 to 45,043 by June 2008.
In July 2008 the car was sold on to a collector of classic cars, again in Lancashire, who owned amongst others two Capris, a Cortina, and a Triumph Dolomite Sprint, taking them to shows, and he kept this Capri until January 2011.
The 2nd to the 5th owners were all from the same area in Lancashire, so from 1983 to 2011, some 28 years, the Capri remained within an area of roughly 14 miles.
In January 2011 the car was sold through Ebay to a Capri Club member and serial Capri collector in Northern Ireland, by which time the mileage had increased to 47,531.
In April 2011 I purchased the car, and it has since been used during the summer months for Capri Club runs and shows etc. Current mileage is 49850.
Overall in my opinion the car is in exceptional condition.
The bodywork is very very good, all original panels with correct gaps, very good dark metallic grey paintwork with only a few minor blemishes. There is a tiny blister starting on the n/s/r wheel arch, and similarly on the o/s/r quarter below the bumper, but you have to look very closely to see them. Underneath is completely orginal, unwelded, and undersealed apart from the fuel tank and straps which are painted. The sunroof works and does not leak.
The interior is in mint condition with unmarked seats, doorcards, headlining and carpets; the dash is uncracked, all dials/gauges/switches/heater fan work perfectly, and the original radiocassette is still fitted and working. The parcel shelf has slight sag when the tailgate is open. The tailgate struts have been recently regassed.
The car drives like new with no squeaks/rattles etc inside; the engine and auto box run perfectly, with smooth gearchanges and correct kickdown, no overheating. Oil pressure is excellent. The exhaust is slightly louder than standard but not intrusive. The rear axle is fine with no noises. The brakes are the best I have ever experienced on a Capri despite being standard. Under the bonnet is very clean and would take very little work to bring to show standard.
The wheels are near new 7 x 13" RS 4-spokes with near new tyres, the spare is a steel Ford sports wheel with new tyre.
There are two keys which fit all the locks correctly, and keys for the petrol cap. There is a Gemini alarm/immobiliser fitted; I have two remotes and a key for this but have not used the alarm itself.
The MoT is to 20 July 2013, and the car is now SORN for the winter. The only thing needed for the MoT in the last 6 years has been an indicator bulb.
My asking price is £ 5750 ono, which reflects the car's condition and the fact there are very few original 3.0 Ghias left.
You can view an online album of around 60 photos of this car at: www.capriclubni.com/LCKpics.html
This is a genuine but reluctant sale, I have been a member of Capri Club NI since 2006, but have had little opportunity to use the car this year. I now fancy going back to a 2.8 injection if I buy another Capri, although I'm not fully decided yet.
The car is located in County Down, Northern Ireland, approx. 40 mins from Belfast airports and ferry port. I can meet prospective buyers at either, and would probably be able to assist with delivery to mainland UK if required.
You can contact me by phone or email for more details.
