| 2000 Rare chance to purchase part built Liege Sport For Sale (C34298) | | | The Liege is a lightweight two seater sporting car for the enthusiast. A competition car from concept, where the objective of lightness and simplicity is achieved within an enduring sports body.
A versatile natural performer,that has proven itself time and again to be impressively agile in the rough and eager on the road.
The Liege has a smooth, purposeful body with strong curving doors. The floor, being integral, contributes significantly to overall torsional strength yet still has a kerbside weight of less than 500 Kgs.
The “A” frame chassis comprises independent double wishbone front suspension and a positive “A” bracket and trailing arm design locating the rear axle together with coilspring shock absorbers all round.
The Liege has a low centre of gravity and its relationship to the roll centre axis has been designed so that no anti-roll bars are required.
The 1 1/2 turn lock-to-lock steering is light and responsive with an excellent 28 ft turning circle adding to the agility.
The 4 cylinder, four stroke, water cooled die cast aluminium 850cc engine has a forged steel counter balanced crankshaft and connecting rods and is renowned for its reliability and fuel economy.
The four speed aluminium cased gearbox with its positive action compliments the lightness and gives the Liege lively performance with economy to match (50 mpg attainable).
Equally reassuring is the dual circuit braking system, being highly effective, with twin leading shoe 7” drum brakes all round.
There are specially cast 16” alloy wheels fitted with 5.00 x 16 Avon Mk II Speedmaster tyres front and rear, (other options are available).
The driving position is relaxed with easy controls and adjustable seats, able to accommodate drivers of a variety of statures.
A spare wheel can be mounted on the back and makes space in the rear for soft luggage and weather equipment.
In competition the Liege has successfully competed in MCC Endurance Trials, winning Bronze, Silver, Gold, Triple and Trio Awards, Classic Trials, Le Jog and Guild of Motor Endurance long distance events all over the world.
Wherever and whatever the terrain, the Liege willingly responds.
Liege chassis number 034 was ordered on 1st November 2000 from the Liege Motor Company in Fladbury, Worcestershire and took some 2 ½ years to acquire all the relevant component parts prior to commencing the build.
Chassis
The chassis has been built with care, to rolling stage in accordance with Liege instructions and is as follows:-
“A” frame chassis, internally rust protected and with a black powder coat exterior finish.
Black powder coat finish wishbone kit, polybushes and new top/bottom ball joints.
Liege modified, Reliant front uprights and steering arms, fully reconditioned with new parts, including new brake back plates, cylinders, shoes and drums etc. New flexible brake pipes and mudguard mounts have been fitted
The rear suspension is also black powder coat finished, polybushed and new rosejoint fitted. The rear axle/brakes have been reconditioned and running with the 5.0:1 Final Drive ratio, (ideally suited to Trials).
Liege supplied coil springs are fitted front and rear on Liege supplied adjustable GAZ dampers.
The Reliant steering rack and casing has been modified as per Liege requirements and is ready to be built and fitted to the competition rack bushes and modified rack mounts on the chassis.
Brake and fuel lines with stone protectors have been fitted to the chassis with the relevant new brass T pieces.
The Liege supplied fibreglass radiator support and base panels have been fitted together with a new plastic bodied Reliant radiator.
New engine and gearbox rubber mounts have been fitted.
Fuel tank supports are in place as per Liege build instructions.
Chassis to body insulating strip has been fitted.
Engine and Gearbox
A “known” 850 cc Reliant engine and gearbox have been fitted to the chassis with relevant propshaft. This unit was removed from another Liege that was driven to Devon when it was upgraded at the owners’ request.
The engine is complete with all ancilliaries including starter motor, alternator, carburettor and air filter / housing, water pump, distributor, fuel pump, hoses etc and once filled with fresh oil, ready to continue in Liege service.
The gearbox is fitted with Liege modified gear lever.
There is a Liege specification exhaust downpipe fitted together with a modified side exit Reliant silencer and appropriate mounts.
Wheels and Tyres
Four Liege supplied die cast alloy 16” wheels are fitted, together with new inner tubes and new 5.00 x 16 Avon Speedmaster tyres. New wheel bolts and centre caps have been used in the build.
The picture of the rolling chassis 034 was used in the official Liege publicity material and shows the simple but robust design.
Body
Included in the sale are all of the Liege supplied fibreglass body parts required to complete the build. These include:-
Main body tub (most flash lines removed).
Bonnet, hinge box and strengthening rib.
2 x doors
Nose cone
Dashboard and infill panel
Front and rear mudguards
Front indicator mount pods
Boot floor and sides
Additional Liege parts required are new and included.
They comprise:-

All donor parts that are required to complete build will be supplied.
These include:-
Donor V5c (currently on SORN) and relevant chassis plate
Dual brake master cylinder and new brake pipes to connect to chassis
Liege modified pedals in finished pedal box assembly
Liege modified upper inner steering column and steering wheel.

Reconditioned and powder coated fuel tank unit
Fuel filler neck, hoses and cap
Lucas wiper motor, drive cable and wheel boxes
Heater unit with all ducting and outlet vents
Reliant wiring loom, Reliant instruments, switches and gauges.
Pair of nearly new Reliant cloth covered seats together with runners, saddle clamps and fittings

To the best of my knowledge there is nothing else that is required other than some time and effort to complete the build and get the car ready for SVA. Sundry items and fluids excluded.
